IU has added Lyons Township (Ill.) guard Harrison Niego as a preferred walk-on for next season, according to multiple reports.
Jeff Rabjohns of Peegs.com was the first to report Niego’s commitment. The program has not commented or confirmed.
Niego, a 6-foot-2 guard from La Grange, Ill., had received offers from Northern Illinois and Illinois-Chicago. He will not receive a scholarship, as all 13 of the Hoosiers’ allowed scholarships have been allocated for next season.
He figures to add backcourt depth to a team returning just one true point guard in senior Yogi Ferrell, but may find playing time hard to come by. Last season, the walk-on combination of Ryan Burton, Jordan Fuchs and Nate Ritchie played just 72 total minutes.
Niego joins fellow La Grange native Nick Zeisloft in Bloomington.
