The IU Police Depatrment’s Lt. Craig Munroe confirmed the reported rape from Sunday Feb. 8.
“It was an actual rape, not an attempted rape,” Munroe said. “I was told that by investigations, yesterday.”
Earlier in the investigation there was confusion if the report was an attempted rape report or a rape by force report.
Unlike previous rape cases on IU’s campus, no crime alert was sent out in response to the incident.
“There was no immediate danger,” Munroe said. “There was no reason to believe that this would occur again with the same individual. It was something to do with the relationship between the two individuals involved.”
The case is still open. The victim has yet to give a complete statement, Munroe said.
The rape occurred between 10 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday, but was reported Sunday afternoon around 1 p.m. according to the police department’s daily logs.
