IU prepares for fifth and sixth matches in last week

After splitting its matches Wednesday, the IU men’s tennis team had a quick ?turnaround.

Though the Hoosiers returned home from Louisville on Wednesday night, they will continue playing on the road. The Hoosiers are 1-3 on the road this season.

“I think those matches are all very difficult if you play them at home, neutral or away,” IU Coach Jeremy Wurtzman said. “I definitely think it is a bit of an advantage when they are at their home court because they are ?comfortable.”

The No. 36 Hoosiers are scheduled to play non-Big Ten opponents again this weekend. IU travels to play Saint Mary’s at 1 p.m. and Washington at 6 p.m. Sunday in Seattle.

This will mark the third consecutive road trip for the Hoosiers. Though the Hoosiers will have to fly for this one, Wurtzman said he is not worried about travel becoming an issue.

“I don’t see that,” Wurtzman said. “We are going to make sure that we are prepared and ready for it. We are going to get practice on their court, that I don’t see that ?being too big of an issue.”

Saint Mary’s (1-7) is coming off a 4-0 loss against No. 14 California.

“Saint Mary’s is very good,” Wurtzman said. “It’s going to be a tough neutral match to play on Saturday morning. We don’t know them very well but they are going to be ready for us.”

While Saint Mary’s has had a rough season, No. 53 Washington poses a tougher ?challenge. Washington (7-1) is coming off a 6-1 home victory over Portland.

The Huskies have had a week of rest while the Hoosiers have recently been ?traveling.

In addition, Washington will host the Hoosiers and have home court advantage Saturday.

“Washington is historically one of the best programs in the country,” Wurtzman said. “It’s great that we have them on our schedule and we get to go out there and play them at their courts and get an opportunity to play at a very fun college environment. We want to play matches like that.”
