Arrest made in food mart burglary

Two young suspects allegedly broke into John’s Food Mart on South Rogers Street to steal cigarettes, snacks and soda early Friday morning, Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Ian Lovan said.

According to a police report, a 15-year-old female and her 21-year-old boyfriend broke through the front window. Surveillance video indicates they took various items and displaced items throughout the store.

After female suspect’s mother noticed her daughter had brought home cartons of cigarettes, she called a juvenile probation caseworker, who then called the police.

The female suspect initially denied the charges, but later admitted to the burglary during her BPD interview. The male suspect denied the charges and asked to speak to his attorney during a separate interview, Lovan said.

The male suspect was arrested and preliminarily charged with burglary. The female suspect was taken to a juvenile detention facility.
