IUSA ticket changes its platform

A ticket running for the IU Student Association, Hoosiers 4 Solutions, is making two additions to its platform, according to a press release.

The first addition is to expand the Indiana Lifeline Law to include reports of sexual assault, so that victims of an assault would be immune from underage drinking charges.

“This proposal is for the 19-year-old who has just been sexually assaulted at a party,” said Akaash Shanker, the candidate for treasurer, in the press release. “When she Googles whether or not she can be charged with underage drinking for reporting a sexual assault in Indiana, the answer is technically yes. Anything other than absolutely no is unacceptable.”

For the second addition, Solutions candidates said they would encourage the Board of Trustees and IU Foundation to use the University’s endowment money in more sustainable industries.

“At about $1.5 billion, IU has one of the 20 largest endowments of any public institution,” candidate for president Casey Shelburne said. “So long as we can preserve the return on the endowment’s investments, we want to encourage Indiana University to be the worldwide leader in responsible investing.”
