IU fans hopeful of deep tourney run

The Hoosiers will begin another quest Sunday that, to both players’ and fans’ hopes, will lead them to Hoover, Ala., for a College Cup, an NCAA final win and an eighth star, which has eluded the program now for six years.

Hoosiers selected to men's soccer NCAA Tournament

Indiana grabbed the No. 16 seed for the tournament, awarding them a first-round bye into the tournament of 48. Unseeded Liberty and Old Dominion will face off Thursday to determine the Hoosiers’ second-round foe.

Junior goalkeeper Luis Soffner succeeded for a ninth time this season in shutting out IU’s opponent. The problem was, he didn’t shut out his own teammate, senior Tommy Meyer.

Michael Soderlund, redshirt freshman midfielder Kerel Bradford, sophomore midfielder/forward Blake Wise, true freshman defender/forward Jack Coleman and junior midfielder Aris Zafeiratos took an unconventional path to travel a great distance to come to Bloomington and wear the cream and crimson for one reason — tradition.

Junior Joe Tolen has seen action in only five games. The midfielder said he hopes, as he returns to his native Evansville on Wednesday for a game against the Aces, that he’ll get another opportunity to play in front of his old home crowd.

Hoosiers snap losing streak with late goal

It looked as if the IU men’s soccer team was headed for an overtime period Wednesday until freshman forward Eriq Zavaleta connected on the go-ahead goal to give IU a 1-0 victory against Butler.
