IU Athletics announced Thursday that Nov. 3 will be a mandatory day off from all athletic activities so student-athletes can vote in the upcoming election. This decision is one in a series of steps athletic director Scott Dolson and his predecessor Fred Glass outlined in an email to student-athletes and staff on June 8, to find and implement ways combating racism and secure racial justice and equality.

On May 15 Aang rode his air scooter back into our hearts. All three seasons — or books — of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” dropped on Netflix and sent us back in time to the mid-2000s. I — Kevin — binged the show with my co-authors Tristan and Phillip. “Avatar” was just a cool show when we were kids. The animation was exhilarating. Appa and Momo were wonderful even though Appa’s gigantic, human teeth were horrifying. But revisiting the show as an adult reveals the show's complexity: the show poses massive questions about free will, destiny and fate and touches on the horrors of war and imperialism. “Avatar: The Last Airbender” meant a lot to us then, but it means even more 15 years later.

The use of Pat Tillman’s story every Memorial Day on social media by politicians and sports media organizations is disgusting. The Army Ranger and former NFL player's death was sensationalized and used to fuel war propoganda. Today, the intentions behind using his story are ignorant to Tillman’s views of the Iraq war and the fact the U.S. Army lied about the nature of his death.

Two weeks ago, the Colts were 5-2 and looked like a team poised for a strong playoff push. Heading into week nine, they were riding a three-game win streak into Pittsburgh before facing a 3-4 Steelers team and ultimately squandered an opportunity to stamp a huge exclamation point on an impressive first half of their season.
