Indiana men’s soccer forward Victor Bezerra finished last season with 12 goals and was the runner-up for the MAC Hermann Trophy. However, through the Hoosiers’ first three games this season, the junior had seen less than 50 minutes of action after going down with an injury in their opener against the University of Notre Dame.

Despite a rainy beginning to the game and a late 8 p.m. start at Bill Armstrong Stadium, Hoosier fans were out to support the No. 1 IU men’s soccer team Tuesday for the first time since Dec. 1, 2019 — a 639 day gap. The Hoosiers took down Butler University 1-0.

Three IU men’s soccer players were named preseason All-Americans by College Soccer News on Friday. Junior forward Victor Bezerra, last season’s MAC Hermann Trophy runner-up, and junior goalkeeper Roman Celentano were named to the first-team. Senior defender Spencer Glass was named to the second-team.

Hoosier Hysteria, IU basketball’s season tipoff event, will take place Oct. 2 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, IU Athletics announced Thursday. IU football plays Penn State on the same day, and neither event has a set time yet.

IU wrestling’s 2020 freshman class dealt with a season like no other this year. Head coach Angel Escobedo said this class missed out on a lot because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the team showed resilience and heart in the face of it.

IU wrestling redshirt freshman DJ Washington won the UWW Junior Nationals tournament in the 79 kg. weight class this weekend. Eleven Hoosiers total competed in the tournament, and sophomore heavyweight Jacob Bullock was an All-American with a seventh-place finish.

IU wrestling sent three athletes to the NCAA Wrestling Championships this week. Sophomores DJ Washington and Cayden Rooks and redshirt sophomore Graham Rooks all won matches for IU before being eliminated from the tournament Friday morning in the second consolation round.
