I was excited to watch Taika Waititi's new show "Reservation Dogs," which is a show about young Native Americans hoping to escape from their reservation and go to California. After I watched a few episodes, I was sorely disappointed. Another new breakthrough of representation in television left me disappointed yet again.

The summer of 2020 was dense. We saw a series of wide-scale protests across the country in response to police brutality, warranting an examination of how the police system works in the United States. We saw a pandemic bring the world to its knees, calling into question the realities of healthcare and housing access, with a never-before-seen amount of citizens on unemployment, unable to earn enough to keep up with mounting bills. On top of all of this, we witnessed one of the most intense election seasons in American history, after which there was an attack on the US capital.

There's always talk of forgiveness, but who forgives and who forgets?I don't think I'll ever stop hearing about cancel culture at this rate. Everyday it's someone new, some new issue or some different event. And just as often, I hear we need to move on and forgive the person or organization.

I write for the Indiana Daily Student, so I will always have an audience that's going to read my work. Still, I have to ask which audience is going to read — a Black one or a non-Black one?

It seems pointless to say, but the United States was never a home for Black people. You don't need to hear much about the history of this country to realize that.

You already know about the latest controversy around Lil Nas X. No, not the homophobia he faced when coming out in 2019. Not the debate around whether or not his hit song "Old Town Road" counts as country music. Not his shocking Halloween costume that drew the ire of fellow rapper 50 Cent. No, this time the controversy is about his latest hit song and the accompanying music video, where Lil Nas X gives Satan a lapdance.

I have been routinely asked questions about my Blackness. Being the only Black kid in a very white social circle, I was often the go-to person whenever the subject of race was brought up. When I came out as gay in high school, my social circle remained the same — I had to pull double duty, now speaking on both race and sexuality. Only recently, while browsingTwitter, did I read the words I wish I had known back then: "It's not my job to educate you."

It's common knowledge that laws in America have a dark history, especially as they relate to Black people. We see this darkness in the slave codes that set the terms of how Black people were to be treated under slavery, Jim Crow laws enforcing segregation or even more recently redlining. These were all topics in my high school history class, but an area of law that isn’t discussed enough is music law, namely copyright law.

The situation at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields is much bigger than a job listing asking to "maintain our tradition, core white audience."

It seems people have already forgotten the saying was "Abolish the Police" before it was watered down to "Police Reform." Americans are seeing a tiring and oft-repeated, combination of revisionist history and performative activism. Instead of policy change, we get murals, and instead of active help, we get social media campaigns.

Discussions about sexuality and discussions about Blackness seem to be fairly separated for some reason.

It costs about $104,744 to attend IU-Bloomington full-time for four years as an Indiana resident, so I guess that's how much IU paid for me.

Traditionally, the term "transracial" was used in the context of certain cases of adoption, such as a white couple adopting a Black child. When I saw "#transracial" was trending on Twitter last week, I hoped it was going to be about that. The hashtag was trending, though, because of the work of an internet troll who purposefully edited a photo of himself with darker skin with a caption announcing he is transracial.

This isn’t anything special.

An album that debuts at number two on the Billboard 200 and features industry giants like Beyoncé and Young Thug shouldn't be a first outing. Megan Thee Stallion makes it happen, though, and I can't complain.

Britney Spears is 39 years old now. She's raising her two kids, taking them to Disneyland and still actively performed up until 2019. Yet, she has little to no control over her own money.

The very first episode of Hulu's revival of "Animaniacs" left me with one thought: This show is going to age terribly. I'm positive it will, but the show will be better off with that flaw, since the original aged just as poorly.

I didn't think I'd see a Michael J. Fox "Back to the Future" cameo in a trailer for a Santa themed music video for the latest Lil Nas X song, but it happened anyway.

I struggle to write this. It feels cruel to write about my disappointment in Black men at a time when we're seeing Black men being killed on the streets. It feels inconsequential to worry about the problems within our community when we face so much opposition from outside of it. But at the end of the day I can't shake this need to speak on what I'm feeling at this point in history, and simply put: Black men, we need to be better than this.

So, the joke that Ice Cube went from rapping a song titled "Fuck Tha Police" to starring in home movies has played out, right?
