My family loves to tell stories from my childhood, like I imagine most do. There are the typical “You and your cousin used to bite each other on the back” and “You always cried when strangers tried to touch you.” Normal stuff.

You don’t go into movies like “American Ultra” with high expectations. I mean, for the love of god, it’s about a stoner who is secretly a CIA agent, but doesn’t know it because his memories were erased.
I heard the rumors, read the reviews and sifted through the endless negative critiques, but I still had hope. I still had my fingers crossed and believed there was no way the “Fantastic Four” remake could be that bad.
Reviewing a reality series is nothing like reviewing a movie or TV show. There isn’t a plot for me to analyze, characterizations to appraise or acting to critique.
The concept of a film about male strippers seemed groundbreaking in 2012. Having it star Channing Tatum and revealing the story was loosely based off of the actor’s past was a formula for high expectations.
Sometimes, we all need a little help. Life gets busy. There are meals to cook, dishes to wash, kids to look after. Then there’s work and cleaning. It becomes too much, and we need some help.
The lack of diversity in the entertainment industry has been an issue for decades. Hollywood is spilling over with straight, white cis people who, while talented, simply cannot relate to the billions of humans across the globe who differ from religious beliefs to sexuality to race.
If you had told me a week ago my new favorite comedy would star Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, I would have asked you who the hell Lily Tomlin was. And when you told me she played the voice of Ms. Frizzle from “The Magic School Bus,” I would face palm myself and go live out the rest of my days in eternal shame.
