Three former Indiana baseball players were drafted in the Major League Baseball draft, which took place from Sunday to Tuesday. Jack Perkins was selected in the fifth round by the Oakland Athletics and Bradley Brehmer and Reese Sharp in the 12th and 20th rounds, respectively, by the Baltimore Orioles. All three are right-handed pitchers.

The Big Ten Conference announced the winners of the Distinguished Scholar Award on Thursday, July 14, including 103 Indiana scholar-athletes. The award is given to students who are in at least their second year at their university and have recorded a minimum 3.7 GPA during the 2021-2022 school year.

A pair of athletes from the Indiana swimming and diving program — junior swimmer Brendan Burns and sophomore diver Tarrin Gilliland — were named recipients of the 2021-2022 IU Athlete of the Year awards. Both Burns and Gilliland won individual NCAA Championships this past season.

Clayton Fielden, a junior from the U.S. Military Academy, will transfer to the Indiana wrestling program, according to a June 5 release from head coach Angel Escobedo. Fielden has three years of eligibility remaining.

Indiana athletics announced on Friday plans to renovate the women’s basketball team center in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The renovation will include updates to the locker room, team lounge, training room and coaches meeting room, according to an IU release.

IU Athletics announced on Monday that Hoosier Hysteria, the tip-off for the Indiana men’s and women’s basketball programs, is scheduled for Friday, October 7 — the day before the homecoming football game versus Michigan. A release clarified that Hoosier Hysteria will not conflict with the annual Homecoming Parade on the same day.

Indiana men’s track and field sophomore Sean Mockler competed in the Irish Life Health National Track and Field Championships in Dublin, Ireland over the weekend. Mockler took first place in the hammer throw with a mark of 65.33 meters.

The USA Basketball Women’s U18 team competed in the FIBA Americas Championships from June 13-19 and won the gold medal on Sunday. The team was led by Texas A&M University head coach Joni Taylor with Indiana head coach Teri Moren and Old Dominion University head coach DeLisha Milton-Jones serving as assistants.

Having faced a slew of tough competition during national tournaments in the fall, the Indiana men’s tennis team headed into the spring season hopeful to use its experiences to improve. Indiana men’s basketball freshman CJ Gunn competed as part of the Indiana All-Stars in a two-game series against the Kentucky All-Stars over the weekend. Gunn was named MVP of the competition after leading Indiana to two blowout wins and posting 41 total points.
