Here are some quotes from the post-game press conference by IU coach Felisha Legette-Jack following her team's 81-57 victory over Northwestern Saturday night in Bloomington. Also there are some quotes by Whitney Thomas and Jamie Braun.
Opening Statement
"What a fun game to be able to play. Everyone, the way we did in tough situation, I'll tell you, Northwestern is a good team and their going to play till the end and we really had to pull out our A game in order to take down our first Big Ten Opponent. Hats off to them, but kudos to our team. Our team was really playing with a sense of urgency, and it shows you that it doesn't matter who gets the credit as long as we get the job done. People came off the bench and did some really good things for us, so we are stretching our team just a little bit more."
On Northwestern cutting their lead to 6 in the second half
"We just never thought about them. My coaching staff looks at the score and figures out what plays we need to run. We needed to focus in on what we needed to do. I thought our defense was stretching too much in the match up and we were not in help side, when we played man so made some corrections with that, but we stayed focused on Indiana and we were able to stretch that lead even more."
On what they will do over the break
"We know that you get out of shape in two days so I don't worry about these young ladies. They are going to find an open gym and play pick up games and our seniors are going to do a great job of making phone calls to everybody making sure that everybody is working out. We are not looking at time off. When we get back on the 26th we are going to be ready for battle again."
On playing in the Big Ten-Whitney Thomas
"The Big Ten is always physical. It's expected and everyone is fighting for something, we are all fighting to make it to postseason. If you don't come out there and fight hard than you're not going to get very far."
On full court press applied by Northwestern-Jamie Braun
"Coach Jack has always talked about push the ball, push the tempo. If a turnover happens, turnover happens; at the least the tempo is being pushed. I just tried to push the tempo and dribble through them or get half way towards them and get people to collapse on me and hit the person open on the outside."
On the balance of scoring
"When you have a team that no one cares who gets the credit and there is no bickering about I need to play five minutes more than this person here, we don't have any of that. We are just playing for each other. We are just playing with a common goal of bringing some notoriety to our women's basketball program through effort, and whatever comes through the effort is what we will take. Sometimes you have to make that extra pass and this team here, I've been trying to tell this community, this is a special team, and it you want to see something special you need to come out and watch us play. This is a group that really does not care about the credit they just care about the results."
On difference without Sasha Chaplin in the lineup-Whitney Thomas
(Note: Athletic department will not talk about specifics of the season-ending knee injury to Chaplin due to privacy laws)
"Sasha is a great player and we lost a lot, but we also picked up in that area. We have Lindsay (Enterline) coming down the post and Jori (Davis) helping when needed. We just pick up where she left off. Everyone knows their role and wherever they have to play that is where they are going to play and work just as hard."
On Sasha's role from the bench
"We just put her to work. I think she is probably playing tic-tack-toe, no I'm joking, she is doing some work for us. You have to keep the kids in the game and they are staying in the game and doing a good job. I really appreciate everybody and we are playing for 13 players and no matter whether one of them is out or not we have to pick it up and play for 13."

____simple_html_dom__voku__html_wrapper____>Sophomore Christina Bleeke has been an Indianapolis Colts fan for nearly her entire life.Bleeke attended her first game in 1988, two weeks after she was born. Her mother had to hide Bleeke under a coat. With the demolition of the RCA Dome on Saturday, Bleeke said a part of her childhood was reduced to rubble.
VIDEO: RCA Dome demolitionAfter the collapse of the roof about three months ago, Bleeke cried for nearly half an hour, but emotions really began to set in when her family attended their first preseason game at newly constructed Lucas Oil Stadium. “I remember feeling sad passing the RCA Dome,” Bleeke said. “I was saying, 'We're never going to go in there again.'” Bleeke has gone through a wide range of emotions following her favorite team, starting with anger and disappointment. Memories of leaving Colts games crying because she thought they would never make the playoffs filled her childhood years. And so even when the team struggled they always had the support of at least one devoted fan.Bleeke especially liked Jim Harbaugh and remembered feeling hatred toward the Colt’s opponents at an early age, because she thought they were hurting him when they tackled him. Bleeke and her family were not ones to miss games. During the 2003-2004 season, the family missed one of their only games on Christmas because they were in Hawaii. A vacation most kids could only dream of, Bleeke tried to convince her parents to let her stay home.“I was hysterical that I was going to miss the game,” she said. Even attending college at IU, Bleeke would travel to Indianapolis for every home game. A couple years later came the 2006 AFC Championship game in the RCA Dome. This was one of Bleeke’s most memorable experiences, which she said was more satisfying than the super bowl victory later that year. Bleeke, dressed in jeans with the words Indianapolis Colts painted down the side and hair colored blue made her way to the Victory Field parking lot to tailgate before the game. The start of the game did not excite Bleeke, with her team down 18 points in the second quarter. At halftime her parents sat in silence. The second half saw the Colts get back into the game by mounting a comeback, in which Bleeke described as happening in slow motion. After Colts quarterback Peyton Manning led his team on a game winning drive late in the game, Bleeke said the building went crazy. “Everyone just exploded,” Bleeke said. Bleeke already knew she would make the trip to Miami for the Superbowl. In fact she had known since her 18th birthday about 11 weeks prior. The party involved a live band, but the real excitement came when Bleeke opened the wrapping paper on one special gift and found a travel itinerary for Miami. She screamed so loud the band stopped playing. Now, as she has done her entire life, Bleeke continues to attend Colts games, but at a different venue, which is hard to compare to the dome. “Lucas Oil is cool and awesome, but it doesn’t have the same feel as the RCA Dome,” she said, adding the RCA Dome was electric and a lot of fun to be part of. Although she will continue to be a Colts fan her entire life, Bleeke said she believes with the demolition of the dome, something else is now missing. “I loved going to all the Colts games at the RCA Dome,” she said. “Now that it’s gone I feel like a huge symbol of my childhood is gone too.”

The Hoosiers will take on Northwestern on Saturday in their Big Ten opener. Roaming the sidelines for the Wildcats will be one of the top women's coaches in history: Joe McKeown (pronounced Mick-Q-ann). Although this is McKeown's first year at NU he is a very seasoned coach, and deserves a mention on the blog. His success can be easily seen from the following:

____simple_html_dom__voku__html_wrapper____>The Northwestern women’s basketball team finished last in the Big Ten a year ago, and currently has a 3-7 record this year. Despite the poor record the Hoosiers are not overlooking a team that recently added a coach with 509 career victories.IU coach Felisha Legette-Jack will lead her team onto the floor at 5 p.m. Saturday at Assembly Hall against the Northwestern Wildcats, in the Big Ten season opener. Legette-Jack said she respects first-year Northwestern coach Joe McKeown, a coach that has taken teams to the NCAA tournament 17 of his 22 years of coaching. “We are a team that is trying to get out of the basement,” she said. “We certainly don’t have enough history of success to believe that were somebody yet. Northwestern is a great team, they have a seasoned coach who has won 20 games a season and he knows how to get it back there.”Junior guard Jamie Braun said her team will not overlook Northwestern and added she is excited to start the conference portion of their schedule. “When you get into conference play you know it’s a whole different level,” Braun said. “Everyone is coming to bring it now, because the games before count towards something, but this counts towards the championship which everyone is trying to build, so everyone plays a little harder.”The Hoosiers will be playing without freshman forward Sasha Chaplin for this game and the rest of the season. Chaplin injured her knee on Dec. 9 against Butler and will have surgery before the end of the month. One player that will see more time because of the injury is freshman forward Danilsa Andujar. Andujar said she is ready to step up and fill in for Chaplin. “I’ve been ready since I’ve set foot in Indiana,” she said. “I’ve worked hard, I’ve come a long way, I’ve worked daily and I’m ready to play whatever role they need me to play.”

____simple_html_dom__voku__html_wrapper____>Senior guard Kim Roberson, the IU women’s basketball team’s defensive specialist, picked up her fourth foul with 14:43 to go in the second half, earning her a seat on the bench. The Indianapolis native only played 22 minutes due to foul trouble, but she made them count, scoring 15 points and pulling down six rebounds to help IU (7-2) beat the West Virginia Mountaineers (7-2) on the road on Dec. 13, 77-73. The Hoosiers have now won six consecutive games with the victory against West Virginia. IU coach Felisha Legette-Jack, who recorded her 98th career victory Dec. 13, said last year she played Roberson one-on-one and had great success. But this year, Legette-Jack said, Roberson won’t even let opposing players by the 3-point line. On one particular play, the Mountaineers had what appeared to be a breakaway layup chance for an easy basket. Roberson, playing with the four fouls, sacrificed her body, diving in front of the West Virginia player and disturbing her just enough to force a miss. After the game, Legette-Jack said that was what IU basketball is all about. “We are tough and relentless, that is just who we are,” she said. “Defense is what we are all about.”In a game where the Hoosiers gave up more points than their coach would have liked, the Hoosiers did manage to hold the Mountaineers to less than 43 percent shooting from the field, including just 2-of-13 from behind the 3-point line. Legette-Jack said if her team was going to give up so many points, it was good they had a solid offensive game. The Hoosiers knocked down six of their 10 3-point attempts in the first half and built a four-point lead going into the break. Helping lead the way for IU on the offensive end, senior forward Amber Jackson had another stellar game with 25 points, which included a key put-in with 15 seconds left to give the Hoosiers a four-point lead and effectively sealing the game for IU. Jackson said she is increasingly more focused and determined this year because it is her last and added her teammates are helping her greatly. “My teammates do a great job of getting me the ball,” Jackson said. “I give all the credit to my teammates.” For the Hoosiers, Dec. 13 represented another game where balanced scoring set the tone, with six players scoring at least seven points in the game. In addition to Jackson’s 25 and Roberson’s 15, junior guard Jamie Braun played a complete game with 12 points, six rebounds and five assists. Freshman guard Ashlee Mells also had a productive game with seven points and four rebounds in just 13 minutes of action. For the Mountaineers, the three-headed monster of Sarah Miles, Liz Repella and Takisha Granberry combined for 61 of the team’s 73 points. The Hoosiers did well against the rest of the West Virginia squad, as their bench outscored the Mountaineers 10-2. With their sixth consecutive win, the Hoosiers, ranked fourth in the Big Ten, will bring their 7-2 record into tournament play as they open with Northwestern, ranked last in the Big Ten, at home on Dec. 20.Jackson, when asked about the difference between this year’s team and last year’s, summed it up in one word: maturity.“We are a mature team,” Jackson said. “We are taking it one game at a time, and every night is a different game.”

Freshman Lindsay Enterline, a native of Monroeville, Ind., has been a Hoosier fan for a long long time. Both her older sister and brother went to IU and she was excited to join the Hoosier basketball team this season. The beginning of the season was rough for Enterline, as she developed a stress fracture before the team's first game. Despite the injury she has battled back, and recorded her first career points for IU on Tuesday night against Butler.

Freshman forward Sasha Chaplin injured her knee on Tuesday against Butler. Chaplin drove to the basket made her shot, but fell down awkwardly. After the play she stayed on the ground for a minute before being helped on the court and into the locker room.
