FINAL HOOSIERS: 76 HAWKEYES: 54
In this edition of the opposing bench we talked to Michael Brownlee. Brownlee, a native of Council Bluffs, Iowa, works for the Daily Iowan, the newspaper of the University of Iowa. He is a senior and will graduate in May with a degree in Journalism and minor in History. Brownlee's random fact is that he is still getting over NBC canceling the show Journeyman. Here is our Q and A with Michael.
What: Indiana (9-2, 2-0) vs. Iowa (8-5, 1-1)
New Years Eve
With the success that the Hoosiers have had so far this season, and partly due to the lack of success of the men's program people are starting to talk more about IU women's basketball.
Well i got my grade report last week (perfect 4.0 for this semester). The IU women's basketball also earned pretty high marks for the fall semester.
The IU women's basketball (9-2, 2-0) beat the Spartans 62-48 Monday night in East Lansing, Michigan.
Leading scorers for IU (Davis-14, Jackson and Braun-12, Roberson-8, Thomas-7)
Today the Hoosiers go for their 8th consecutive win in East Lansing against the Spartans. Game time is set for 7p.m. Coach Jack will be going for win #100 and Whitney Thomas is just 16 points shy of 1,000 for her career.
Scores from Sunday night in the Big Ten
Andujar, a freshman this year, came to IU from Dillard High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
This is a very interesting story about a women's basketball player who seemed to have everything gong right for her, but deep inside things were far from perfect. It is about Elena Delle Donne, the 2008 Naismith National High School Basketball Player of the Year.
____simple_html_dom__voku__html_wrapper____>Allyssa DeHaan, a 6 foot 9 inch center, and the Michigan State Spartans stand in the way of the IU women’s basketball team winning their eighth consecutive game at 7 p.m. Monday in East Lansing, Mich. DeHaan, the freshman of the year last year in the Big Ten ranks third nationally with 3.8 blocks per game. In 2006, DeHaan tied a conference record with 9 blocks in a game against the Hoosiers. Despite the presence of DeHaan, who is averaging nearly 10 points and more than six rebounds a game to go along with the blocks, IU coach Felisha Legette-Jack said she is not worried. “We have Amber Jackson,” Legette-Jack said.Legette-Jack also has four other players in her starting lineup to go along with Jackson who routinely score in double figures. The Spartans (8-4, 1-0) will likely be in the mix for the conference championship this year after finishing runner-up in the WNIT last season. In 2005, the Spartans finished runner-up in the NCAA tournament. Last year having lost eight straight games to the Spartans the Hoosiers (8-2, 1-0) went into the Breslin Center in East Lansing and in front of more than 10,000 fans took down the Spartans 70-56. Jackson led the way with 21 points and all four other starters scored in double digits. Michigan State leads the all-time series 35-22 against IU. In addition to putting their seven game winning streak on the line in their first road contest of conference play the Hoosiers will look for two milestones. With a win against the Spartans, Legette-Jack will reach her 100th career victory in her seventh season. Prior to coming to IU Legette-Jack spent four years at Hofstra. Senior Whitney Thomas, an All-American candidate and Bloomington native is only 16 points shy of 1,000 for her Hoosier career. Thomas is also only 105 rebounds short of 1,000 for her career. If Thomas gets to the 1,000 mark in points and rebounds she would be only the second IU player in history to achieve the feat. Denise Jackson (1981-84) holds the Big Ten record with 1,273 rebounds for her career and also totaled 1,917 points. The game will be broadcast on 105.1 FM as well as streamed on the Big Ten Network Web site.

In the latest edition of The Opposing Bench we asked Joseph Terry, the women's basketball beat writer for The State News, the newspaper of Michigan State University some questions leading up to the IU vs. MSU game on Monday. Joseph is a senior and native of Inkster, Michigan and is also an Eagle Scout. Here is the Q and A.
Happy Holidays to everyone!!!
So on the Hoosier Scoop, the Blog of the Herald-Times there were two conflicting posts that i would like to share then maybe get some reaction on. These posts come after the IU men's team lost 55-42 against Northeastern on Monday night at Assembly Hall.
Scores from Monday night
So the question seems to be with the success the Hoosiers have had to start the season (7 game winning streak) will this carry over to wins in the conference portion of their schedule. Watching games this season it appears that this team is very focused and constantly win the hustle categories such as steals and offensive rebounds. On a night last night when the Hoosiers men's team did not perform very well and appeared to lack the desire and hustle to win, the following comment was posted on The Hoosier Scoop, the blog of the Herald-Times.
