____simple_html_dom__voku__html_wrapper____>On a day when the Hoosiers had a lot to celebrate, the final score disappointed them. In front of the second largest crowd of the season, an estimated 3,558 people the Hoosiers (15-7, 8-5) lost their third consecutive game Sunday falling 66-59 against Illinois (7-17, 3-10). The Hoosiers got off to a slow start and found themselves down by 10 points with 6:31 to go in the first half. The Hoosiers went on a 12-3 run and cut the lead to two with 2:35 left in the half. Senior Whitney Thomas scored 12 points and 10 rebounds. Her 10 boards made her the second player in the history of the women’s basketball program to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. With the three consecutive losses the Hoosiers will need to find answers before their game with Michigan State on Thursday. Legette-Jack said her biggest concern is the spirit of the team. “My concern is that we don’t loose our spirit,” she said. “The spirit is what guides us and sustains us and if we drop our spirit because the ball doesn’t go in the hole then what are we really left with.”

____simple_html_dom__voku__html_wrapper____>The IU women’s basketball team has only lost consecutive games once this season, and that came more than two months ago. After a loss against No. 14 Ohio State on Sunday the Hoosiers (15-5, 8-3) will try to avoid another loss as they travel to Iowa City, Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes (13-8, 6-4) today. If the Hoosiers are to avoid their first back-to-back losses since Nov. 22 they must do something they have not done since Feb. 20, 1994: win at Iowa.Instead of worrying about the Hawkeyes, who won their last game against Penn State in triple overtime, IU coach Felisha Legette-Jack is staying focused on her team.“It’s really about us,” she said. “It’s not about who we play, where we are playing – right now we are just a group of ladies that are willing to play anybody, anywhere, anytime. In the alley, in Assembly Hall, at their home court – not because we think we are tough, but because we know the game and we want to be ready wherever the competition takes us.”This week the competition will take the Hoosiers to Carver-Hawkeye Arena, where the team has a 4-20 overall record. Before the season began, the Hoosiers had some lofty goals for a group that had not been to the NCAA Tournament since 2002 and won its only conference title 25 years ago.But accomplishing both goals – making the tournament and competing for a Big Ten Championship – has become a possibility in large part due to the senior leadership and team chemistry.Sophomore Andrea Mcguirt said more than anything, her teammates are out there for each other.“This year we are all more together playing as a unit, playing for each other, playing for our seniors,” Mcguirt said. “We have the goals of the team in mind like winning the Big Ten so we are all just playing for a common goal together.”The Hoosiers have been in a position where they have lost a Big Ten game on the road and had to come back and play again away from Assembly Hall. After Minnesota halted the Hoosiers’ streak at nine consecutive wins, the team came back and beat Penn State on the road.Sophomore captain Jori Davis said she thinks her team will get back to winning against Iowa. “Most definitely we are going to bounce back,” Davis said. “We’re a good team. We have to come out and get this win. We need a couple more wins, especially to even get to the tournament. Iowa is good at home so we have to come tough – tough and ready.”Legette-Jack said this month will be important in reaching goals and that her team must stay focused on the present.“The journey is too long,” Legette-Jack said. “We got a long month ahead of us. This is the month that makes people’s seasons right here. If we stay present we have a shot.”

____simple_html_dom__voku__html_wrapper____>COLUMBUS, Ohio – The IU women’s basketball team came out strong against No. 14 Ohio State, silencing the home crowd with a 26-17 lead with 4:26 remaining in the first half. But the next two and a half minutes weren’t as kind to the Hoosiers – the Buckeyes went on a 7-0 run, and they continued to apply pressure. Ohio State went into halftime with a lead, 32-29, and never relinquished it.IU lost 59-51 Sunday. An IU win would have catapulted the Hoosiers to first place in the Big Ten, but the loss sent them to a two-team tie for third place. Both teams played well on defense with a combined 39 turnovers in the game. Shaky offense hurt the Hoosiers (15-5, 8-3), shooting 20-of-64 from the field for 31.3 percent and just 5-for-19 from beyond the 3-point arc. The Buckeyes (18-3, 9-1) shot 42.6 percent.IU coach Felisha Legette-Jack said their shortcoming on offense was a big factor in the game.“I thought the offense was what we struggled with the most,” she said. “We are going to get back to Bloomington and work on how to put the ball in the hole.”Point guard Jamie Braun said the pressure Ohio State applied made establishing any type of consistency on offense difficult.“Their defense was really pressuring me as the point guard and our wings, so it was very hard to get in an offensive rhythm,” she said. “They played really good defensively. We just couldn’t find a way to get our offense going.”The Buckeyes held a significant advantage on the inside as well. Their two post players, All-American candidate Jantel Lavender and Star Allen, combined for 38 of Ohio State’s 59 points. The Hoosiers’ inside game suffered when senior Amber Jackson went to the bench with two fouls and 17:20 to go in the first half.Legette-Jack said she did not expect Jackson to be limited to three minutes in the first half but had to deal with the situation and make adjustments.“You just keep playing,” she said. “You can’t predict the game. That’s what the beauty of this game is. There is no prediction on whether your fighter is going to be out there the entire game.”Senior Whitney Thomas scored 12 points in the first half for IU, but she didn’t score again the rest of the game. Thomas said being undersized hurt the team, especially going up against one of the best players in the conference in the post.“We were there, they were just able to get shots over us,” Thomas said. “It shows there is a lot we need to work on, but we are going to get better.”Legette-Jack said her team went away from its game plan against the Buckeyes and were not as aggressive as they should have been. She also said she does not expect a repeat performance.“We felt the hands around us, and we saw the defense pressuring us and we conceded,” she said. “That won’t happen again.”– IU Sports columnist Dave Leno contributed to this report.
