College is an expensive time to be alive for many students. With textbook rentals, tuition, meal plans and more, coming to school is a pricey ordeal. Consequently, it is easy to spend excess money on alcohol, video games or food. And without parental pressure, thoughts of savings and fiscal responsibility go by the wayside.
However, the time to start educating yourself on smart investing and managing the risks associated with choosing stocks is now.

In a recent move to increase safety in the downtown community, the Bloomington Police Department has increased its presence in Peoples Park and instituted a zero-tolerance policy for drugs, alcohol and violence. Hiring new cadets and redoubling their efforts to corral crime downtown, BPD is also investing in new security cameras and trimmed hedges to help deter crime in the first place. Given the sizable homeless population in the Bloomington community, these kinds of measures are all the more important. With Kirkwood perceived as an affluent area, displays of public violence hurt Bloomington’s image, as well as IU’s.

In a recent announcement, the White House announced its plan to make good on one of Trump’s campaign promises — lowering the corporate tax rate. The question remains if Trump has the political acumen to get this proposal passed. It will likely be many months before the House and Senate are able to actually agree on and pass a bill, but the proposal in and of itself has dangerous implications for our country.

For some college students, there are three integral parts of day-to-day life: partying, sleeping and Netflix. It seems that when it comes to free time, these are the three big forces vying for attention. According to techinfographics.com, 68 percent of students binge-watch Netflix. Sixty percent of students nationally drank in the past month, according to niaaa.gov. While this does not mean they were partying, it is related.

The Republicans have finally released their proposal for how they intend to revamp former President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare.” The bill features federal insurance subsidies and tax credits which, on first glance, might make it seem like Republicans finally have a working solution.
