Members of the Bloomington community dashed out of the cold and into the Buskirk-Chumley Theater lobby Monday night for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration. The auditorium doors opened at 6 p.m. and the attendees were greeted by desserts, a melodic children’s choir and a reminder of the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

Cicada Cinema, a Bloomington-based pop-up movie theater, will present a film series at 7 p.m. Jan. 26, 28 and 29 based on the works of director and screenwriter Jim Jarmusch.

Floating candles danced in the air over the heads of this year’s attendees on the night of Dec. 13 for the 6th annual Yule Ball. While the rest of their muggle friends were left with the worries of finals, the witches and wizards who attended the ball were instead whisked into a magical night filled with Butterbeer, robes, cauldrons and dancing.

The IU Cinema organized a Q&A session with Saudi Arabian filmmaker Haifaa al-Mansour at 4 p.m. Friday. Following the Q&A session, al-Mansour attended a screening of her most recent film, “The Perfect Candidate,” at 7 p.m.

Crowds of students gathered at the entrance of the Indiana Memorial Union Starbucks, lining up as they took turns to fill their plates with free eggs, potatoes and sausage. IU Union Board’s Canvas Creative Arts organized an event called “Bob Ross Paint Along and Big Breakfast” from 9 to 11 p.m. Thursday.

The IU Cinema will show a special “quote-along” screening of “The Sound of Music” at 4 p.m. Sunday. Attendees of the screening are encouraged to dress up as their favorite characters and sing or talk along to the movie as it is playing. This screening marks the fifth-annual quote-along organized at the cinema.

The 13th Annual Bloomington Christmas Sing-Along will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Trinity Reformed Church. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and there will be cookies and hot cocoa following the sing-along. The event is family-friendly and open to the community.

Straight No Chaser, the IU-born a cappella group, will return to the IU Auditorium at 8 p.m. Dec. 13 for the bicentennial celebration. Along with the unveiling of an official bicentennial song commissioned by IU, the nine-man group will feature its newly released EP.
