Welcome back to the weekend show guide. As the semester ends, there are many exciting annual spring events and the return of monthly performances. There are also plenty of hard rock and heavy metal shows to mosh out any finals season frustration. Here’s what’s happening:

The Burning Couch Festival kicked off at 11:30 a.m. and went until 9 p.m. Sunday at Switchyard Park. Those attending were able to listen to live music, explore many different local businesses and eat from local food vendors.

At 6 p.m. April 10 at the FAR Center for Contemporary Arts, members of the Bloomington Poetry Slam and other community members gathered to celebrate the launch of Dan “Sully” Sullivan’s new book, “O Body,” a collection of poems that delves into questions of masculinity, fatherhood, home and the complex relationship with one’s own body.

Morton C. Bradley, Jr. brought together geometry and art through his uniquely shaped sculptures. To celebrate the artist’s legacy, “Math Meets Art” took place 4 p.m., Feb. 15, in the University Collections at McCalla School.

IU students and the people of Bloomington gathered Sunday evening to celebrate the year of the dragon at the “Dragon Brings Fortune, Together We Paint the New Spring” Lunar New Year gala hosted by the IU Chinese Students and Scholars Association. The event, held in the IU Auditorium, was open to the public and free for all to attend.

The stage was set, the smell of food lingered in the air, and 90’s jams filled the room as the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center (NMBCC) and the Black Film Center & Archive hosted a karaoke night with the theme of Black movie soundtracks at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 in the Grand Hall of the NMBCC building.

On Friday, Jan. 26 and Saturday, Jan. 27, Sheng Wang, an L.A. stand-up comedian, performed four sold out shows at The Comedy Attic. As people walked out of the previous show, they told the next guests about Wang’s performance, saying he was great and funny, and warning that their stomachs would hurt from laughing so much.

North Carolinian country artist, Kameron Marlowe, performed his songs to an incredibly resilient crowd. On Sunday, Jan. 21, fans waited outside The Bluebird Nightclub, shivering in line as they waited to be let in to attend the show, which is part of the Kameron Marlowe: I Can Lie Tour.
