Richard Swift -- "Kisses for the Misses"\nIn April, WIUX hosted its annual event Culture Shock in weather that could easily be described as "horrendous." However, we had an outstanding lineup, portable heaters and a great deal of help from family, friends and WIUX supporters. Richard Swift's "Kisses for the Misses" takes me back to huddling together with my friends in the rain while we enjoyed sets by Swift, Nomo, David Vandervelde and many others. Stay tuned for information on Culture Shock 2008, which is shaping up to be outstanding as well.

LCD Soundsystem -- "New York I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down"\nJames Murphy and crew threw a curveball with this closing track on their album Sound of Silver. Without a trace of the band's usual dance-punk and dripping instead with ballad-y goodness, this track laments the changes in New York and delves into the love-hate relationship many have with the Big Apple. "New York you're perfect, don't, oh please don't, change a thing." Indeed.

In an attempt to spice up their advertisements, companies have been licensing music from a variety of musicians who are beneath the radar. Many bands still avoid licensing their music to commercials to avoid being labeled "sell-outs," but others are inclined to take the money and enjoy the additional exposure that is afforded to them. Here are some recent musical highlights from commercials:
