IU track and field is in Jacksonville, Florida, this weekend where 31 Hoosiers will compete in the NCAA East Regional Meet. This is the second highest total number of athletes IU has sent to regionals in the meet’s six year existence.

Fifth-year senior Brianna Johnson started running cross-country when she was in fifth grade, and she only started running because her sister did. Her sister ran a race and won a ribbon. Although it was only a participation ribbon for finishing second to last, it was enough to make Brianna want to beat her.
IU competed in its first outdoor meet of the season, the Pac-12 vs. Big Ten Invitational, on Friday and Saturday in Tempe, Arizona. The Big Ten swept the Pac-12 for the men’s and women’s competitions.

Junior thrower Nakel McClinton, senior heptathlete Dylan Anderson and senior pole vaulter Sydney Clute competed at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 11-12. All were named second team All-Americans by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, but none left Birmingham, Alabama, having met the goals they set for themselves before the meet.
