Indiana men’s soccer settled for a 1-1 draw on the road against the University of Kentucky on Tuesday in a match that featured more missed opportunities for the Hoosiers. Senior forward Karsen Henderlong’s early goal and a saved penalty by junior goalkeeper JT Harms didn’t prove to be enough to give Indiana the win.

A five-year-old boy from Rogers Elementary School in Bloomington passed away from an unknown illness on the morning of Sept. 29. The Monroe County Health Department began an investigation and has ruled out bacterial meningitis, but not other life-threatening bacterial infections or viral meningitis. Tests are pending to determine if there is any public health threat.

Members of the House of Representatives removed Kevin McCarthy from his position as speaker Tuesday by a vote of 216-210. The motion’s sponsor Rep. Matt Gaetz along with 7 other Republicans and 212 Democrats voted to remove the speaker. This was the first time in history that a speaker of the house has been removed from office.

Fowler Pumpkin Patch, a family-owned seasonal pumpkin patch located at 5060 N. Greene County Line Rd., opened last week for its fall season. The pumpkin patch was founded eight years ago.

After finishing up the Fighting Irish Classic early this week, Indiana men’s golf notched another top-5 finish. Indiana finished play tied for second place, totaling scores of 837 (279-277-281; 3-under). The Hoosiers have now placed in the top-5 in back-to-back tournaments, and will have two more competitions to finish out the fall season.

Following the tentative agreement reached between the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) and the Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) on Sept. 27, leaders of the union have authorized their members to return to work. This effectively puts an end to a strike that will go down in Hollywood history, being the first dual strike between screenwriters and actors since 1960. However, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) remains on strike as they are yet to reenter negotiations with AMPTP. Though I believe this took far too long, I am ultimately very glad that writers efforts were successful.

For the first time since the 2011-12 season, Indiana men’s basketball and the University of Kentucky will resume their regular season rivalry. The schools finalized a four-year series starting in 2025-26 through 2028-29, college basketball insider Jon Rothstein reported Tuesday afternoon.

Jack Davis: Going to the movie theater is so much better than watching a movie on a streaming service. There is something about the environment of watching a movie with people that cannot be replicated while streaming it. For example, when you watch a horror movie, you get scared together or when you watch a Marvel movie, you get excited together. It is just a fun experience. If given the chance to watch at home or in a theater, I will choose theater every time.

The IU Office of Online Education will host its eighth annual IU Online Conference Oct. 25 to 27. The conference will allow faculty and staff to learn new ways of approaching online learning and how it can benefit IU’s goal of expanding educational opportunities.

As I walked down to the halls of the IU Health Bloomington Hospital, I couldn’t help but feel depressed. Most people don’t feel overly joyous when they are walking the halls of a hospital, but I wasn’t there for myself or even somebody I knew. I was simply there to observe a group of EMTs for the night.

Musicians everywhere probably started as kids with toothless smiles and dreams of making it big one day. They were — and still are — just like us. They sat next to us in math class. They gave us the crust from their PB&J sandwich that one time in fourth grade. They grew up listening to the radio in the back of their parents’ car and learned the lyrics to their favorite songs without fully understanding what they meant.

In one of the biggest weekends of the year for Indiana field hockey, the Hoosiers were unable to come up with the Big Ten wins they desperately need. Indiana fell to No. 15 Michigan and No. 11 Ohio State at home, dropping its overall record to 4-7 and Big Ten record to 0-4.
