Indiana football welcomed Penn State to Bloomington Saturday afternoon and were taken to task by a score of 45-14. The Nittany Lions came to Memorial Stadium off a debilitating loss to second-ranked Ohio State last week, where the team gave up a fourth-quarter lead. The loss spurred rumors that Penn State freshman quarterback Drew Allar might replace the veteran senior quarterback Sean Clifford at the helm.

Indiana football came into its matchup with Penn State hoping to get an upset and break its ever-growing losing streak. Neither happened, and with an injury to the game’s starting quarterback Jack Tuttle, Indiana’s younger players saw a glimpse of the field. Freshman quarterback Brendan Sorsby and redshirt sophomore Dexter Williams both saw time leading the offense but couldn’t swing the game in the Hoosiers’ favor. Indiana kept it close for the first quarter before failing to move the ball and allowing Penn State to score at will with its rushing attack. In the end, the Hoosiers fell 45-14.

Indiana football got off to a quick start in its game against Rutgers on Saturday. Freshman running back Jaylin Lucas returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown to spark the Hoosier attack. Then, junior quarterback Connor Bazelak took a redzone run into the endzone to extend the Indiana lead to two scores.

Indiana came into the matchup against Maryland following a loss to Michigan over homecoming weekend. Maryland entered the game off an equally demoralizing loss at home against Purdue in which a failed two-point conversion was the difference. While Indiana took the momentum and lead into the half in the battle of two teams looking to bounce back, it was Maryland who stole it back in the fourth quarter winning 38-33.

Indiana football fell to Maryland at home 38-33 during fall break. The game could not have started much worse for the Hoosiers as junior quarterback Connor Bazelak’s first pass of the game was tipped into the hands of the Terrapin defense. Following the turnover, the Maryland offense, led by quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, made quick work of the Indiana defense, capping off a short drive with a read option touchdown for Tagovailoa. On its next drive, Indiana’s offense made a splash play to receiver Emery Simmons for a gain of 40 yards, resulting in points via a field goal. Maryland led 7-3 to end the first quarter.

Last week against the University of Michigan, Indiana football took hits on the defensive side of the ball with multiple veterans going down with injuries before and during the game. Senior linebacker and three-time captain Cam Jones was ruled out prior to the game, along with senior defensive back Jaylin Williams. Fellow senior cornerback Tiawan Mullen left the game with an injury in the second half.

Entering its homecoming matchup with No. 4 Michigan, the Indiana defense faced a tough task of stopping junior running back Blake Corum and the rest of the Wolverine rushing attack.
