"Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time," goes an infamous catchphrase originating from the TV show "Baretta" during the 1970s. This saying is continuously employed today to express that those who are convicted should be prepared to deal with any consequence.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, visitations to many prisons and jails are no longer permitted. The only form of communication these inmates have left to remain connected with their family is through phone calls.
This set of photos represents my journey with photography. Recently, I have been taking the time to learn about manual controls and it has allowed me to grow as a photographer. I thoroughly enjoy taking macro and other up close shots of people which I have been exploring recently. This set of photos is just of different plants and aspects of nature I saw around campus and even in some school buildings. I hope you all enjoy them as much as I did taking them.
With the rise of COVID-19 cases in prisons and the questionable future of our government, it is important to highlight some of the most pressing issues in our criminal justice system. One of them is how our government fails pregnant women who are incarcerated.

My subject matter is typically people and I always shoot in black and white. Black and white allows me to focus on the elements that matter the most and can create sharp images. I am always exploring new techniques and equipment to make my photos unique. In some of the photos below, I used a kaleidoscope filter on my camera to produce the effect. Photography is one of many creative outlets I utilize to express myself. I encourage anyone to explore an art form or creative outlet that interests them.
Throughout quarantine, many have found new hobbies that are fun yet safe. Some started baking bread and others continuously created TikToks.
In the middle of July, a 15-year old girl known as Grace, who attends Groves High School in Michigan, made national news. She was arrested for not completing her schoolwork once COVID-19 forced all schools to switch to a virtual format. Although it was a part of her probation terms, Gov. Whitmer, D-MI, had issued an executive order that would suspend the confinement of juveniles that violated their probation unless they posed a serious threat to the community. Like many Americans, Grace suffers from ADHD which made the transition to virtual education especially difficult.
Black Lives Matter has become one of the biggest movements in history. Along with this, music has become a popular tool for protests because many artists are creating politically-charged music.
