The IU Department of Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance performed “Pipeline,” a play by Dominique Morisseau at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 29-March 8 in the Wells-Metz Theatre. Morisseau has written numerous plays focusing on marginalized communities and the challenges they face. I was truly amazed by the performance, and how IU put up the play. The setting, acting and music were outstanding, and it echoed perfection.

Ohio based folk band, Over the Rhine and folk artist John Paul White are set to perform at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 24, in the Buskirk Chumley-Theater. The show is presented by Bloomington Roots and is planned to last two hours and 30 minutes.

IU students and the people of Bloomington gathered Sunday evening to celebrate the year of the dragon at the “Dragon Brings Fortune, Together We Paint the New Spring” Lunar New Year gala hosted by the IU Chinese Students and Scholars Association. The event, held in the IU Auditorium, was open to the public and free for all to attend.

“Jesus Christ Superstar,” a musical created by Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award-winning composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and playwright Tim Rice will be performed at 7:30 p.m, Feb. 19 - 20 in the IU Auditorium. The At First Sight New Play Festival will bring David Davila’s brand-new musical “Vox Pop! a post-democratic musical” to Ruth N. Halls Theatre Feb. 9-17. Davila, a third year IU MFA playwriting candidate, wrote the book, music and lyrics for this musical.

The Jacobs School of Music Opera and Ballet Theater will present “An American Dream” at 7:30 p.m, Feb. 2-3 in the Musical Arts Center. The opera tells the stories of two families — one Jewish and one Japanese — who faced discrimination and were forced to leave their homes during World War II.

Raas Royalty XV (RRXV), an Indian Garba and Raas dance competition hosted by IU club Raas Royalty, will take place with free admission at 5 p.m. on Saturday in the IU Auditorium. IU students founded Raas Royalty in 2010 and hosts eight collegiate Raas dance teams which compete for a bid to the Raas All Star National Competition.

The audience filled the IU Auditorium with laughter and applause Saturday night after the performance by “STOMP,” an off-Broadway theatrical group which plays percussion with unconventional instruments. At times, only the sawdust between the eight cast members’ shoes and the stage floor was used to make the group’s signature rhythm which ended IU Auditorium’s first 2024 show in a mass standing ovation.
