Of the 43,503 IU-B students enrolled last semester, 137 registered for accommodations relating to autism through DSS. This is the only way the university keeps track of how many students are on the autism spectrum.The accommodations DSS offers include allowing students to: use a laptop or tablet to take notes during class; record class lectures and discussions; leave the classroom suddenly in the event of disability-related symptoms; select a seat that allows best access to the material; take tests in a quiet, proctored setting free from interruption; take time-and-a-half or double-time on timed tests, quizzes, exams and in-class written assignments; and receive a written copy of any verbal instructions given prior to a test, exam or assignment.
