IDS conversation with Bea Gorton

Earlier this week, IDS had a chance to talk with former IU women's basketball Bea Gorton. Gorton coached at IU during what the program considers "the greatest era in women's basketball" that saw IU go to an AIAW Final Four and a pair of Elite Eights. The team is coming back to IU this weekend to be recognized with Final Four rings and an AIAW Final Four banner to be hung up at Assembly Hall which you can read about here.

FINAL: Purdue 86, IU 53

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. --- Facing a veteran Purdue team on the road, the young IU women's basketball team proved to be no match. The Boilermakers defeated the Hoosiers 86-53, handing IU its 20th straight conference road loss.

Halftime: Ohio State 39, IU 29

Through one half of play, Ohio State leads IU 39-29. Buckeyes sophomore guard Ameryst Alston leads all scorers with 12 points. The Hoosiers shot 40.7 percent (11-of-27) from the field, 33 percent (1-of-3) from 3-point range, while the Buckeyes shot 62.1 percent (18-of-29) from the field, 50 percent (4-of-8) from 3-point range. With 13 minutes and 32 seconds remaining in the first half, Ohio State went on a 12-2 run to give itself a 20-10 lead.

Mallory and Fabris are no longer with IU

IU Coach Kevin Wilson announced Friday afternoon that Defensive Coordinator Doug Mallory and Defensive Line Coach Jon Fabris will not return to the coaching staff in 2014. "Doug and Jon are solid coaches and good men," Wilson said in a release.

Women's soccer Spring schedule announced

IU women's soccer released the Hoosiers' 2014 Spring schedule on Thursday. The schedule is made up of six games over the course of March and April and includes four home games. The Hoosiers are coming off of a 2013 NCAA Tournament run that saw IU advancing to the second round under the helm of IU Coach Amy Berbary in her first season. IU will kick off its Spring season inside Mellencamp Pavilion against St.

Former Indiana safety Greg Heban signed with Agency Athlete, a sports management company, and its CEO John Hernandez, according to Hernandez's Twitter account.

Brooks, Deloach earn Big Ten accolades

Freshman guard Larryn Brooks was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week and senior forward Simone Deloach was named to the Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll, the Big Ten announced on Monday. For Brooks, IU's leading scorer at 18.8 points per game, this is the second time she has earned the Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor and the first time since she earned it on Nov.

Latimer declares for the 2014 NFL Draft

IU junior wide receiver Cody Latimer announced on his Twitter and Instagram accounts Sunday night that he will forego his senior year and enter the 2014 NFL Draft. "I just want to take the time to finally get it out there that I am officially entering the 2014 NFL Draft," he said in his post.

Luke Fischer to transfer to Marquette

Luke Fischer, who informed IU Coach Tom Crean on Dec. 30 of his decision to withdraw from IU, announced on Twitter this morning that he has decided to transfer to Marquette University to play basketball for the Golden Eagles. "I am excited to say I will be transferring to Marquette University to play for Coach Williams and the Golden Eagles," he tweeted.
