Three days after graduating from IU, Patrick Doody has a job.

Monday, the Naperville, Ill. native signed a homegrown contract with the Chicago Fire. Doody joined the Fire academy at the age of 15.

In his four year IU career Doody scored six goals and tallied 12 assists, starting all but two matches in his final three seasons. As a captain during his senior season Doody scored a career high four goals and recorded a career high and team high five assists.

“I am extremely grateful and honored with the opportunity the Fire have given me,” Doody said in a press release. “I have been going to Toyota Park since I was 15 in hopes of one day walking into the stadium as a professional. It is a special feeling knowing now that I can do that.”

Doody was part of IU’s 2012 national championship, assisting on the only goal in IU’s 1-0 win in the championship match against Georgetown.

“Patrick left a great mark at IU,” IU Coach Todd Yeagley said in a press release. “He helped us win a National Championship and was a great teammate through his leadership, work rate and fantastic attitude.”

Doody also earned academic All-Big Ten accolades in his senior season.

Doody is the sixth homegrown player the Fire have signed and the second homegrown player to have played for IU. Tommy Thompson signed a homegrown contract with the San Jose Earthquakes after the 2013 season.

“Patrick is a talented, young player and another local product who understands what wearing the Fire badge represents,” Fire Head Coach and Director of Soccer Frank Yallop said in a press release. “It speaks highly of the work our player development system has been doing to produce another player who can make the transition to the First Team.”
