IU defeats UNCG 87-79

UNCG made it close, but IU ultimately managed to get back on track after an upset loss on Monday to defeat UNCG 87-79.

UNCG cut the deficit to as little as six points with less than 30 seconds remaining, but IU was able to hold off the Spartans in crunch time just enough to escape Assembly Hall with a win.

IU improves to 5-1 on the season while UNCG falls to 1-5. The Spartans have yet to beat a Division I opponent.

IU established a healthy lead thanks to a 28-10 run midway through the first half. The Hoosiers led by as many as 22 with 19:22 left in the game before UNCG began to heat up from beyond the arc.

Nine different Hoosiers scored on the night, led by 24 points from freshman guard James Blackmon Jr.

Junior forward Hanner Mosquera-Perea had 10 points and six rebounds in 23 minutes. He shared time with freshman forward Emmitt Holt who had five rebounds in 12 minutes.

Nicholas Paulos led UNCG with 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting. He was 6-of-8 from 3-point range.

UNCG finished 14-of-23 from beyond the arc (60.9 percent) but only shot 42.5 percent from within the arc.

IU outrebounded UNCG 39-26.
