The Hoosiers’ frontcourt took another hit Wednesday when senior forward Derek Elston was diagnosed with a torn meniscus in his left knee.

Th e team’s Twitter account confirmed earlier reports Wednesday evening.

The injury, suffered at Saturday’s Hoosier Hysteria, is a reaggravation of an injury Elston originally suffered at Tipton (Indiana) High School.

He is scheduled for surgery on Friday, but will appear today with IU Coach Tom Crean and several teammates at the Big Ten Basketball Media Day.

Elston will begin rehabilitation immediately after surgery. The injury is not expected to cause Elston to miss the entire season, but he is likely to be out eight weeks.

The senior becomes the third forward on the team to fall victim to recent injury. Both junior Will Sheehey and freshman Hanner Mosquera-Perea were sidelined at Hoosier Hysteria.

Elston averaged 4.2 points per game and 2.4 rebounds per game last season.
