Alexander Doty’s life remembered with film viewings

A remembrance of the life of Alexander Doty, former chair of the Department of Communication and Culture, will take place this weekend.
Doty died Aug. 5 in Bermuda after being hit by a motorcycle.
The memorial will span two days, beginning at 2 p.m. Friday in Swain Hall East 105 with a speaker series.
An open mic night will follow from 5:30-8 p.m. at 300 E. Third St.
The memorial continues at noon Saturday in the IU Cinema.
Beginning at 2:30 p.m., three of Doty’s favorite films will be screened: “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,” Leave Her to Heaven” and “The Women .”
Doty’s work focused on gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and feminist film theory.
