FROM IDS REPORTS

Nearly 40 golfers teed off to raise funds to build the Marching Hundred a permanent
practice facility.

They raised money during the annual Marching Hundred Golf Outing on Sunday at Martinsville Golf Club.

The Marching Hundred has been without a permanent practice site since 1983. Plans are currently in place to build a practice facility, but band members and alumni continuously raise funds for the future Marching Hundred Hall.

The golf outing event began four years ago in Bloomington, but organizers have since moved the event to Martinsville in an attempt to reach more alumni living in Indianapolis, Marching Hundred Director David Woodley said.

“We had a larger turnout than the past four years,”he said. He added this year’s outing attracted more participants from outside the Marching Hundred alumni base than in previous years.

The amount raised during the golf outing will be unknown until calculated by alumni, Woodley said.

“We’re about halfway to our goal,” he said.

The new facility is estimated to cost $4.5 million.

Individuals interested in making donations to the Marching Hundred Hall Fund can go to indiana.edu/~bands.
