The opportunity to bring home a gold medal is right around the corner, but IU track and field athlete Derek Drouin decided to get a head start on winning in London.
Drouin, a junior, cleared 2.26 meters to win the high jump Saturday at the Aviva London Grand Prix Diamond League Meet in London.
Drouin, who will represent his native Canada in the Olympics later this month, edged out Robbie Grabarz of Great Britain, the No. 3 high jumper in the world,
Meanwhile, former Hoosier Molly Beckwith narrowly outran Janeth Jepkosgei, clipping the Kenyan by less then 1/100th of a second (2:00.68) to win the 800-meter.
Beckwith has now run the 800 in under 2:01 for the seventh straight race.
