Sublime with Rome concert switches venues to IU Auditorium

POSTED AT 11:35 PM ON Apr. 16, 2012  (UPDATED AT 01:50 PM ON Apr. 17, 2012)

The Sublime with Rome concert has been moved from its original venue of Assembly Hall to the IU Auditorium.

“Union Board and Sublime with Rome wanted to ensure the best, most intimate concert experience for this Little 500 show,” said Brad Domash, public relations and marketing  director for Union Board.

However, some members of the student body had voiced reservations about the original venue choice since it was announced in early February.

Union Board Concert Director Sam Schectman said the student group gauged demand based on the last concert the band played in Indianapolis. Sublime with Rome played a show at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in 2011, which sold more than 18,000 tickets. In that concert, the band was opening for 311.

“The seating at the IU Auditorium would not suffice the amount of tickets wanted by all the fans,” Schectman said in an interview in February.

The capacity of Assembly Hall is 17,472. The capacity of the IU Auditorium is 3,154 people, and tickets are still on sale for the event.

The time and price of the concert will remain the same, but those who have already bought a ticket should exchange it for a new seat at the Auditorium Box Office beginning at 10 a.m. today.

Seats will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, but current ticket holders will be assigned seats in the same price level as the original purchase.
