Multiple sources tell the IDS’ Justin Albers that sophomore quarterback Edward Wright-Baker took all the snaps with the first team in practice Thursday and will start IU’s season opener Saturday against Ball State.
Wright-Baker, from Jeffersonville, Ind., is listed at 6-foot-1 and 220 pounds. In a reserve role last season, he appeared in five games and completed 5 of 12 passes for 80 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He also rushed for 25 yards on eight runs.
Sophomore Dusty Kiel and true freshman Tre Roberson were the other top contenders for the starting job.
IU opens the season, their first with new coach Kevin Wilson, at 7:00 p.m. Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
