The IU Police Department received a report of another sexual assault on campus Friday night -- the third reported this month and fifth this year. The incident, reported by a 24-year-old female, occurred about midnight Monday.
According to IUPD reports, the assault occurred at the south end of the Campus View parking lot. The woman, a resident of Tulip Tree Apartments, was walking home alone from the Herman B Wells Library. Just before reaching a pathway that led to her apartment complex, a white male came out of the shadows from the area near the railroad tracks, according to police reports. He exposed his genitals to her and then grabbed her around the neck in an attempt to pull her toward the railroad tracks. The victim escaped the suspect's grasp and ran to Tulip Tree Apartments, according to police.
The male has been described as white, mid-20s, about 5'10", with short light brown hair and a slender muscular build. He was clean shaven, wearing a short-sleeved shirt and cream-colored shorts.
This incident joins two other reported sexual assaults this month. On April 10, a woman reported being raped by four men in Foster Quad. Another woman said she was raped April 3 in McNutt Quad by a male acquaintance.
Court records show no charges have been filed in either of those cases.
Anyone with information about the assault is urged to call the IUPD at 855-4111.
