Jill Behrman Case Timeline
MAY 31, 2000 — Nineteen-year-old sophomore Jill Behrman disappears
while riding her bike on the outskirts of Bloomington. She is believed
to have left about 9 a.m. that morning from her Hyde Park home.
JUNE 8, 2000 — Authorities call for mountain bikers to assist in the
search for Beherman in a ride that begins around 3 p.m.
APRIL 18, 2001 — FBI announces the theory that Behrman may have been
accidentally struck by a vehicle being driven by people from the
community who did not intend to harm her in any way.
APRIL 2, 2002 — Divers search Salt Creek for Behrman based on a tip but
end their search early because of flooding.
APRIL 10, 2002 — Prosecutors ask a judge to raise bond on Monroe County
resident Uriah Clouse, who is serving jail time on unrelated charges
and name him a suspect in the case.
APRIL 13, 2002 —Investigators reveal Uriah J. Clouse told people at
Bloomington nightclub details of Jill’s dsappearance
SEPTEMBER 2002 — Salt Creek is drained, revealing new evidence but no body.
AUGUST 23, 2002 — ”America’s Most Wanted” airs an update on the
disappearance of Jill BehrmanBloomington community wonders if they will
finally learn what happened to Jill Behrman.
MARCH 9, 2003 — Human remains found in rural Morgan County woods by a
hunter and his son are confirmed to be those of Behrman.
MARCH 2003 — Officials say a confession by Wendy Owings prompted the
draining of Salt Creek. The confession, which implicated Uriah Clouse,
is retracted after Behrman's remains are discovered in Morgan County.
Clouse is released in April 2003. Investigators announce they have
requested a grand jury inquiry into Behrman’s disappearance.
APRIL 10, 2006 — John R. Myers II, a 30-year-old Ellettsville native,
is indicted by the grand jury for his involvement in Behrman’s
disappearance. The investigation began to point toward Myers in
December 2004, the principal investigator says.
APRIL 22, 2006 — Fox airs “Crime Scene: Murder in the Heartland,” a
report about the Behrman case, which notes that she was shot “execution
style,” in the back of the head.
MAY 15, 2006 — A Morgan County Superior Court Judge hears arguments for
a change of venue for Myers’ trial, scheduled for Sept. 18. He makes no
immediate decision.
JUNE 8, 2006 — A Morgan County Superior Court judge says Behrman’s
autopsy results will remain sealed after two newspapers file public
information requests for the results.
SEPT. 25, 2006 — Myers’ lawyer files a motion after deadline to request
an alibi for his client.
SEPT. 28, 2006 — Fox 59 News reporter learns she is named as a possible
witness in the trial.
OCT. 2, 2006 — Twelve jurors and three alternates are selected in
Morgan County Court.
OCT. 16, 2006 — Jury trial begins.
OCT. 30, 2006 — John Myers is found guilty of the murder of Jill Behrman. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 1. Myers could face up to 65 years in prison.
DEC. 01, 2006 — John Myers II is sentenced to 65 years in prison after being found guilty of murdering Behrman.
