Congratulations to ‘The Good Wife’

The show seems to be doing well – it’s been snagging some Screen Actors Guild nominations, including one for Julianna Margulies for best drama actress, in addition to her similar Golden Globe nomination.

That’s not all the show has to celebrate – it has some nice braggung rights with ratings. “Lifeguard,” the most recent episode, was the best-rated yet, landing 14.1 million viewers, far more than competition ‘The Jay Leno Show’ and a ‘Forgotten’ repeat scored. Not quite up to NCIS levels, but it’s early days – and it’s certainly an accomplishment. With numbers like that, it should score a top-ten spot in the Nielson listings again.

Does the show deserve it? Absolutely. It’s unique – not another cop and lawyer show with several spin-offs and a plot almost totally concentrated on the case. A good portion is about Alicia’s wife – her imprisoned husband, her crazy mother-in-law, her kids struggling to make it past their father’s transgressions, and her sexy friend/boss Will. There’s more of a human interest angle, and a plot that ties the episodes together – you actually have to watch the episodes, unlike Law and Order, where you can pretty much watch any random one and be set.

Another feather in CBS’s cap – and another reason for NBC to groan, with it’s “Jay Leno Show” only pulling in 5.2 million viewers the same night. Despite ‘30 Rock’ pulling in some award nominations, the network isn’t doing as well as CBS. Chances are, ‘The Good Wife’ will continue to hold its own – for a freshman drama, it’s not doing bad at all.
