TV Recap: ‘Meet the Browns,’ “Meet the Couch Potato”
Mike Beam
Will’s suspension creates headaches at home as he sleeps all day, neglecting responsibilities and angering Sasha.
Will tries to make breakfast, which tastes terrible. But Sasha tells the kids they need to appreciate Will, as he’s having a tough time not working. He comes in and asks how breakfast was. They all pretend it was yummy, and Jaoquin says, “Those were the best pancakes I ever had.”
“Oh, really?” Will asks. “These are hashbrowns.”
Later in the day, Will encounters more problems than just making bad food. Sasha comes home from work to find him asleep on the couch. It turns out he did not do the housework they agreed upon and paid the kids to go buy themselves dinner. Apparently Sasha finds fast food unacceptable, and she and Will start arguing.
Elsewhere, Mr. Brown tries to learn Spanish so he can earn more money at the hospital. Of course, he gives up and decides to fake it. But his plan falls apart when two Spanish-speakers come in and one of them yells, “Ayudame! Ayudame!” Mr. Brown interprets it as “You da man!” No raise for him.
The yelling patient was in a car accident caused by Brianna, who had taken the car while Will was asleep again on the couch. Sasha starts tearing into Will for the accident, blaming him because she wouldn’t have taken the car had he been awake and taking care of the home.
Then the real issue comes out: Will resents Sasha for telling the hospital review board the truth about his feelings for the deceased Eddy Walker. He feels betrayed and believes she’s the reason he’s suspended from work.
Sasha defends her decision and admits that maybe she wanted to see Walker killed too.
“The only thing you managed to kill was my career,” Will says scathingly, walking out, leaving the issue unresolved.
