New “Valkyrie” trailer…

October 31st, 2008 by pdmattin

Ok, first of all this movie looks good. I’m interested to see it and think that the true story of a plot to kill Hitler is pretty cool….That being said, I have two questions for this trailer:

1) If these are germans who are trying to kill Hitler, why do they not have a trace of a german accent? Are they trying to avoid the problem Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson ran into with their russian accents in K:19-The Widowmaker?  Of course, if the moviemakers wanted to be truly accurate, all of them would speak in german.

2) Why are they using the “Saw” music?  I was under the impression that the song was written exclusively to be the theme for the “Saw” movies.

They did it!!!

October 30th, 2008 by Michael Mellini

Somehow in hell, today marks the 6th month anniversary of Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon. Rather than bash them as most media outlets have done over the course of their relationship, here’s to celebrating the day, and showing they proved everyone wrong (…so far.) Happy Anniversary guys, to celebrate check out Mimi’s new Nick-less video “I Stay in Love.”

Just How Many Jokers are Going to be out on Kirkwood Tomorrow?

October 30th, 2008 by Michael Mellini

The movie was excellent. It made a shit ton of money. Ledger will probably win an Oscar. But, please don’t be the Joker for Halloween. It’s unoriginal, and chances are you suck at mimicing his voice, and I don’t want to get creeped out while drunk. Instead go for some originality. Halloween is the best holiday because it’s a giant theme party where everyone’s guaranteed to participate. Have fun with it, but step away from Ali G, “Fear and Loathing’s…” Raoul Duke, or any alcohol related costume. Everyone’s done them before. I’ll be out burnin’ up as the Jonas Brothers (which I’m now finding out isn’t as original idea as I thought) but hey, I have curly hair, I’m lanky as fuck, and I own a vest (what the hell why am I not a teen pop star?)

Daily Links, Thursday 10.30

October 30th, 2008 by Cory Barker

Man, it’s really been a slow news week hasn’t it? I feel like none of the links this week have been as top-notch as I’d like. I apologize, but I dunno what to do you know? Hopefully, these are better.

Courtney Cox has joined forces with “Scrubs” exec. Bill Lawrence to create “Cougar Town,” a sitcom about a newly-single 40-year old mother for ABC. Not much else is known at this time, but Cox is definitely better off in comedy than in the serious drab that was “Dirt.” [Variety]

A bit of life imitating art here: Tracy Morgan says that Alec Baldwin was the primary person helping him through personal issues over the past year or so. Baldwin is simply one of the coolest sob’s on the planet, and this is a good story to hear about. [TV Guide]

There’s a Beatles-themed video game coming from the folks behind “Rock Band.” While it won’t be a “Rock Band” riff featuring the band, it will include interactive performance opportunities. Paul, Ringo, Yoko and Olivia Harrison have all signed off on it and are involved. [MTV News]

Ratings from last night: The Obama ad pulled in about 30 million viewers over all the networks, which is pretty damn good. Oddly enough, it was watched most on NBC [9.8 million] and that was probably one of the biggest viewer numbers that sorry network has had all season. “Pushing Daisies” hit a season high in direct competition with the Obama hype machine with 6.6 million, while “Private Practice” [7.7 mil] and “Dirty Sexy Money” [6.1 mil] dipped slightly. Obviously, loads of people [20 mil in fact] watched the Phillies polish off the Rays in Game 5 of the World Series. [The Live Feed]

Comic book scribe Mark Millar is still blowing off about his supposed 8 hour epic series of “Superman” films he’s been pushing all over Hollywood recently. He claims that he’s working with a big name America director in hopes to get the project off the ground, but saying it’s going to be like the “Godfather” films is a bit too much. Some say Millar is just full of shit, but I guess only time will tell. [Empire]

Sadly I say no. This article wonders if Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin phenomenon on “SNL” will get people to turn into “30 Rock” this season. I just don’t see it happening, even though “Rock” is the best comedy on TV and deserves more viewers than most shows. However, as I’ve said before, I think Fey needs to let the Palin thing go and focus on “30 Rock,” because no one wants that show to suffer just because “SNL” needs another ratings boost. [MSNBC]

Finally today, here’s the newest “5 friends” video from the biggest players in Hollywood. I actually think this one is better than the last. Go out and vote people. Seriously, why wouldn’t you?

Recap: House 506, “Joy”

October 30th, 2008 by Cory Barker

Sorry for the lateness of this mini-cap. This week’s ep of “House” was one of the best of the season, featuring both a compelling case [which has barely happened at all this season] and great character interactions.

About that new Harry Potter trailer…

October 30th, 2008 by pdmattin

So a new “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince” trailer has been released, giving a surprisingly bountiful amount of new images and scenes. In fact, almost everything depicted in the trailer is different from the last teaser, something that seems to be pretty odd nowadays and should be commended by Warner Bros.  What is interesting though is that such a long trailer has been released 8 months before it even comes out.

Regarding the trailer, it’s pretty good.  It’s cliche’ to say that this Harry Potter movie is darker because they all grow darker by the nature of the series.  But the ending scene with Harry and Hermione is a welcome change, showing that there will be a fair share of humor in the movie, something that was missing from the last one.  Of course, even though the movies with Michael Gambon as Dumbledore are infinitely better than the ones with Richard Harris (the first two), that’s not because of Gambon’s performance.  He’s a great actor and indeed, there are scenes where he nails the “fun” and craziness of Dumbledore, but overall, his depiction of the character is way off from the book which is annoying.  Hearing his voice over the trailer describing to Harry what’s going on sounds nothing like anyone would imagine he would sound like.

Ah well….Prisoner of Azkaban was fantastic and the following two movies were good (not great) so I’m still looking forward to it.  check out the trailer:

What to Watch, 10.29

October 29th, 2008 by Cory Barker

Well, aside from that 30 minute ad from Obama at 8 PM on FOX, NBC and CBS, the solid ABC shows are all on tonight. You should watch them, because as I’ve been chronicling, they aren’t lighting the world on fire ratingswise.
