Above is the red-band trailer for the second and “long-awaited” “Boondock Saints” film, “All Saints Day.” Frankly, the hype and fervor surrounding the original film never made sense to me. But for whatever reason, that diehard cult support helped get a second film made, which is pretty cool in its own right. Though I’ll be interested to see if this one does as well with audiences. It’s so long removed from the original film and with all those expectations, people are bound to be disappointed.
Your thoughts on this new trailer? Do you like the original film?
Above is the trailer for the new HBO show, BORED TO DEATH, starring Jason Schwartzman as writer-turned illegal private detective, Ted Danson as his editor and Zach Galifianakis as his best friend. It looks to be part-dark comedy, part-detective story and part-film noir-riff. I like what I see. Hopefully it will be better than HBO’s most recent darker comedy, HUNG, which I do not really care for. With an awesome cast, including the now higher-profile Galifianakis and Schwartzman, I can see this be a big hit for HBO. Thoughts?
The teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan’s 2010 film “Inception” is now live and it’s certainly interesting. Little is known about this film other than it has something to do with crime and the inner-workings of the human mind. It looks as though they’ll be some “Matrix”-like combat at least in one sequence, which could be cool. Most everyone in the business and in the theaters trust Nolan at this point (and the great casting of Leo DiCaprio, Joesph Gordan-Levitt, Marion Cotillard and Ellen Page, Michael Caine), so we’ll just wait until the summer 2010.
After months, nay, years, of hype, the first full-length trailer for James Cameron’s “Avatar” has hit the web and is obviously posted above.
I know that a small laptop screen cannot really compete with a giant IMAX 3D screen, but uh, this kind of sucks folks. The supposedly “revolutionary” imaging and effects look solid, but ultimately underwhelming due to the hype. The entire trailer just left me numb. The Na’vi (the cat-looking characters) just don’t seem that real, each scene with them felt like a video game or animated movie and honestly I am already more interested in anything where I actually see Sam Worthington in human form. I trust Cameron obviously, but these two minutes don’t instill much confidence in me. And of course, I’m not the only one — enjoy some of the comments from those classy folks at Aint It Cool News.
Thoughts? Does James Cameron still have it? Or did all that money from “Titanic” make him suck?
Above is the first official trailer for “I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell,” the film based on the best-selling book written by one of the Internet’s most hated, Tucker Max.
Whether or not you believe most of the insane, sexually-fueled stories that Max penned in his book that shares a title with this film, you cannot help but be slightly entertained by them. Not as entertaining: frat boys and dumbasses who think this book is gospel.
The film is based on his “Austin Roadtrip” story and stars GILMORE GIRLS and FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS alum Matt Czuchry, but to be honest, it looks pretty lame. It’s an independent effort with Max writing the screenplay (which wasn’t well-received), but I can imagine a load of bros with high hopes for this one. If they were as intelligent as I hope they are, they’d be disappointed. But who are we kidding.
The first trailer for the powerhouse comedy film of the fall, COUPLES RETREAT has hit the interwebs. Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman, Jon Favreau, Kristen Bell, Malin Akerman and Kristin Davis star in the film which was written by Vaughn and Favreau. With one hell of a cast and creative staff for a comedy not related to Judd Apatow, this film has all the makings of a big hit.
However, although the trailer certainly has its funny moments, I was not blown away in the way that I had hoped. I really wish Vince Vaughn was more than one-dimensional and Malin Akerman could act — but you have to love Favs and Kristin Davis as a married couple. Let’s hope when the film hits theaters in October that it is better than what we see here. Or even hope for a red-band trailer at the end of the summer once Universal has FUNNY PEOPLE out of the way.
After set backs, re-shoots, re-edits and release date changes, we finally get to see a great trailer for Spike Jonze’s “Where the Wild Things Are.”
And I love it. I haven’t read the book it ages, but the trailer makes me want to again. I love the tone Jonze has taken and the special effects look surprisingly solid as well. The film hits theaters this October, and I’m sure this is just the beginning of the marketing campaign.
If you want to feel like a youngin’ again, watch this trailer.
Though it will debut on the silver screen in front of “Watchmen” at the end of this week, the brand new “Terminator Salvation” has already hit the interwebs via Yahoo.
And just let me say…holy hell.
Even as a “Terminator” fanboy, I have been a bit suspicious of this flick’s development. Sure, Christian Bale is the star and there looks to be some really promising script developments…but it’s still directed by McG. I like McG as a producer, but could care less for his films.
However, this trailer more or less proves that “Salvation” is going to be the best summer film of the year. Or at least compete for it.
I’m very excited they’ve introduced this “terminator with a soul” type idea where the person doesn’t even know they’re a cyborg – very “Battlestar” IMO – but it’s very cool. The action looks great, Bale looks as angry as he does in the famous set clip and damn does this film look beautiful.
Even if Arnie doesn’t make an appearance – though I’m still guessing he will – this is going to be a really solid film and probable start to a new trilogy. Watch the trailer and be ready to think, “Wait, are we sure McG directed this?”
FOX has raised the stakes on Wednesday night, swapping “Idol” and “Lie to Me.” This means that “Lost” will have to go head-to-head with the ratings powerhouse, which sort of sucks. I mean we all know that “Lost” won’t be canceled or anything, but you hate to see it go out in its final 29 episodes being watched by only like 7.5 million people, which it could probably drop to by the middle of this season. [TV Guide]
Ratings report from last night: “House” [14 million, 5.1/13] was the highest-rated show of the evening [and thankfully aired a solid episode, too], while “Chuck” dipped to its lowest airing ever [6.8 million, 2.2/5]. At 9 p.m., “24″ [11.2 million, 3.6/8] bumped up with “House” back and “Heroes” was even-keel from last week. [The Live Feed]
Even though the DTV transition has been pushed back to June 12, 641 stations across the country are going to shut off their analog signals by tomorrow anyway. That’s a rousing 36 percent. I’m ready to see how much confusion there is going to be. If it’s not a big deal, President Obama looks sort of like a dunce for messing with the date; if there is minor chaos, he’s a genius. [Broadcasting & Cable]
This slipped by me at the tail-end of last week: Alexis Dziena has been cast in a recurring role during the upcoming season of “Entourage” as a love interest for E. I liked Dziena in “Invasion,” but I’d rather just see E and Sloane back together. [Ausiello Files]
Clearly last night’s numbers weren’t involved, but this is some good work. SyFy Portal has looked at the geek friendly shows and their rating changes throughout this season, finding that “Chuck” has had the biggest ratings increase since the beginning of the season. Until now, of course. [SyFy Portal]
Solid interview with Watchmen artist and consultant for the film adaptation Dave Gibbons. Alan Moore is so stand-off with his properties that I’m glad Gibbons has been so great during this process. [Sci Fi Wire]
Though I took him to task – like my opinion matters anyway – earlier this week, Devin over at CHUD has posted a series of awesome interviews with many people involved with the “Watchmen” film. Can you believe that this damn thing comes out in just over two weeks? I read the graphic novel in ‘06 and haven’t been able to contain my excitement, I can only imagine what long-time fans are thinking. [CHUD]
Finally today, here is the new trailer for “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.” It’s pretty impressive, and I’m sure this movie will make a shit-load of money, but there were arguably too many robots in the first film. This one seems to have at least 23 more Transformers in it; that’s just too many. Good trailer though.
Last night’s Super Bowl commercials were pretty weak overall, but as usual, there were a significant amount of trailers for tentpole releases coming down the pike this summer. Thankfully, the studios let Hulu put most of them up on their site along with the normal ads, so I thought we’d embed them here and then give a quick thought or two.
“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”
I was actually really impressed with this trailer. It was my most anticipated going into the night, and though it might not have lived up to the pre-Bowl leak hype that it was better than the old awesome “Independence Day” SB spot, it was still great. This looks like it will be even more nutty and massive than the first film. “Transformers” purists [it's pathetic that even exists] might hate where Michael Bay has taken the film series, but as a non-fan of the toys and what not, I love it.
“Race to Witch Mountain
Honestly, I could care less about this movie, but I thought this spot worked. Dwayne Johnson is awesome and more charismatic than just about everyone else in Hollywood this side of Will Smith and the special effects look legitimate. This movie is going to be huge no matter what.
