Fashion is not a luxury: Mamma Mia!
Keiara Carr
my Saturday nights consist of, this is the recipe for the musical Mamma
Mia!
Mamma Mia! will take the stage all weekend at the IU auditorium. We’re
getting Broadway talent, at a decent IU student price starting at $20.
Since the show is inspired by the music group ABBA, I felt that it would
only be fitting to have my picks also be inspired by the 1970s pop group
also.
If you don’t understand any of these song titles, I suggest you go buy your
Mamma Mia! ticket immediately and grab an ABBA CD on the way because you
don?t know what you?ve been missing living under that rock of yours.
*Dancing Queen*
Who doesn’t want to be the belle of the disco ball? Stand center stage, in a
form-fitting dress with eye-attracting accents. I love this sequin shift
dress for $16.49 from Charlotte Russe. The dress has attitude with the
exposed zipper, but the satin back has taste of class for the theatre but
could also be a great piece to wear out dancing.
*Mamma Mia!*
For some in this waning economy, it just doesn’t seem worth it to buy an
entirely new outfit. The simple solution: recycle. Whip out one of those
dresses that you haven?t worn in a while and give it new life with
accessories. Here are some classic choices:
Jewel earrings: Like these drop earrings from Claire’s for $9.00. The
neutrality of the jewels can be reused for any formal occasion.
Layer necklaces: I love this one also from Claire’s for $9.50. The pearls
give class without making you feel like a grandma. Since the pearls are not
bunched together, this can be worn for a classy day look, too. With long
necklaces, there’s no need to complicate it with big earrings. Keep it
simple and wear studs.
Hair accessories: It’s remarkable how much a look can change by doing
something different with your hair. I have fallen in love with this Claire’s
rose headband for $5.50. It’s a fun look that will look great whether you
decide to wear your hair up or down. Of course, hair pins are always safe.
Try these for $4.50, which still carry the rose theme.
*Take a chance*
Sometimes, I like to step out of what I usually go for and take a chance on
an outfit. If you’re looking to push the envelope, then I say you should
pull this out.
This is the Ruched leopard dress from Charlotte Russe for $17.49. This is
one of those dresses where your attitude can make or break the dress itself.
It’s all about confidence, looking as if everyone in the room should be
embarrassed for not thinking of it first. It’s a fun and flirty look that’s
daring, but doesn’t leave you looking like an extra out of Pretty Woman.
Enjoy the music, the dancing and, of course, the show. See you there!
