Irving’s uncle: IU is out

In a major shift from information given only a couple weeks ago, IU is out of the mix for the No. 4 point guard in the nation, Kyrie Irving, his uncle Sye Dean told Adam Zagoria of Zagsblog. Formerly, it was believed that Indiana and Duke were Irving’s top two schools, and that he would definitely take a visit to both.
Earlier today, his father told Zagoria that the Irvings were postponing their visit to IU, slated for Oct. 2, and that they were planning a visit to Georgia Tech on Oct. 23.
This is a huge blow to IU’s recruiting class for 2010. However, Josh Selby, the No. 4 overall recruit in the land, who is also a point guard, has recently added IU to the list of schools he is looking at. That may be IU’s last hope for a five-star player this year.
Currently, the class includes the No. 133 recruit in the nation, three-star shooting guard Victor Oladipo, and the unranked two-star forward David Williams.

Initially I can’t help but scream. This is awful. But step back and look at it. We have all been banking on this one big fish, who in all reality is one and done. What we need is a group of players to build around. Best of luck to Kyrie, he could have run the show and had inflated numbers on our squad. But we will be fine without him. With names like Davis, Christmas, Kendrick, Zeller, Plumlee and even Selby out there, we will be okay in the long run. Kyrie is just one player. Heck who knows, since when is his uncle his official spokesperson. Until we hear it from Kyrie’s lips, there’s always a chance. But I will not loose any sleep over it. Don’t get me wrong, if he did or still wants to play here great, if not let’s move forward. “Because it’s Indiana.”

What has happened to Indiana University? We keep forwarding the idea that these kids aren’t coming because there are more attractive basketball programs…other prestige programs that haven’t had the misfortune that comes on the heels of an NCAA recruiting scandal …Some are even starting to question Crean’s ability to draw in the top talent…Another time, another topic….Is there really enough body of work to back up our self-generated hype surrounding this coach?
Why are we treating these kids as if they can’t have more complex thoughts in their college decision making process? Why must we treat them as if they live solely in a basketball bubble? Could the culture at Indiana be the turn off?……Do we come across as static and locked into tradition with little hope of evolving as an institution…Do we sell Tom Crean’s “because it’s Indiana” like Miracle Whip on Wonder bread….Maybe we’re just all too afraid to stand on our own two feet….We hold ourselves up by clinging to the credence of five old banners and grandma tales of mythical greatness…we stand all day in the mirror and wreak from the multiple layers of excessive infatuation that perfumes and never leaves the room….. Maybe it’s time to be vulnerable again….a time to grow and redefine Indiana….. a time to be young and delight in the swagger of holding our heads high with the promise of nothing rather than the heavy exaggeration of everything we pretense to be …….Maybe then some of these kids would feel they’re an integral part of the “because” in Indiana.

Can you put up a story about IU now? There is a football game today. Basketball season is about to start and there are plenty of recruits to profile. Kyrie Whatshisname is no longer a story I’m the least bit interested in reading.
Thanks!

Coach you cant even keep your word on twitter:
“Look for a Twitter Family update tomorrow. We will work with the team in the afternoon. Along with Coach Seltzer, we are out recruiting …”—what do you expect ?

IU made strides last year BUT the top recruits know that IU is a few years away from the top if they even get there. therefore, they, the stars, want to be on a winning team right away so they will be on a pedestal again very shortly. IU will not get the very best until recruits see constant significant improvement and we are nearing the top. It will be a rebuilding PROCESS not a one or two year jump to the best players!!!

The abruptness of Irving decision to cut IU, right on the heals of IU’s in-home visit, makes me believe the Irving wanted something that Indiana would not promise him.
One of the things that we love about Crean is that he is honest and would not promise Irving that he would be our stating guard or meet what some other schools may have offered!!!

Nothing to do with what he “wanted”….Maybe more to do with what he feared…He feared the practices…He feared the Dumes.

Wow….USC football must be really struggling. I think the Hoosier football team could put up a better showing against the lowly Washington Huskies..
Too bad about Irving…I’m not overly disappointed…The kid was grossly overrated and very weak taking the ball to the rim…An Irving with last name Berlin probably said it best in one of his old musical tunes… “After you get what you want, you don’t want it“.
