Will No. 12 IU water polo move up in Wednesday’s rankings?
After going 3-1 in the Bison Invitational, the No. 12 IU water polo team has a decent shot of moving up in the national rankings come Wednesday.
The Hoosiers secured their first top-10 victory of the season by defeating No. 10 Princeton 4-2. The team also beat Villanova 12-3 and Wagner 15-12. IU’s only loss came to division rival Hartwick, who while unranked, still received votes in the most recent poll and has been ranked in every 2013 poll preceding last week’s.
Given a 3-1 record on the weekend and a win over Princeton, it’s unlike IU will fall in the rankings, though No. 14 UC Davis went 4-0 with two wins over ranked foes (IU beat UC Davis 9-8 on Feb. 1).
A much more likely scenario would be IU and Princeton swapping places. No. 11 Long Beach State could also stay above IU in the rankings. The 49ers suffered an eight-goal loss, but it was to No. 2 USC.
Here’s a complete look at how teams No. 7 – 16 fared this past weekend. (Note: RV = received votes in latest poll)
