Drouin Sets Current NCAA Mark
IU senior Derek Drouin set the bar high, literally, for the rest of the NCAA in the men’s high jump.
Drouin jumped 2.32m (7-7.25) at the Hoosier Hills meet Friday night, the highest mark any athlete has cleared this season and fourth highest in the world. The jump also set the Gladstein Fieldhouse record in his final home meet as an indoor track athlete.
“I did a better job than I was even planning on,” Drouin said. “It was pretty special to get it in my last home meet. I was happy that I was able to take a shot at it and get it.”
Drouin took attempts at 2.35m (8-8.25) and said he felt surprisingly good considering the amount of jumps he took today.
The next time Drouin will jump will be in the Big Ten Indoor Championships two weeks from now on Feb. 22-23. The Hoosier Hills meet continues tomorrow at Gladstein Fieldhouse.
