The No. 14 IU water polo team is 1-1 after the first day of the Michigan Kick-Off. The Hoosiers fell to No. 9 San Jose State 12-10 early in the day, then rebounded to take down Colorado State 10-7.

Senior attacker Jakie Köhli returned after sitting out the entire 2012 season due to shoulder surgery. She scored four goals in the first match, moving her into fourth all-time for most career goals at IU. Köhli passed Nicole Redder, who had 182 career goals, and now is 22 shy of third place Brooke Zimmerman.

Two freshmen started for IU, and both made an impact in their debuts.

Center Candyce Schroeder scored her first career goal against San Jose State and added another versus Colorado State. Goalkeeper Jessica Gaudreault made her first collegiate start in replacing the IU great Cassie Wyckoff. Gaudreault made 15 saves on the day while picking up her first career win.

Sophomore Rebecca Gerrity led all IU scorers on the day with five goals, while sophomore Shae Fournier added four, sophomores Shelby Taylor and Colleen McNaught each scored twice and sophomore Shelley St. Omer Roy netted one goal.

IU will finish off play in the Michigan Kick-Off Sunday when it faces No. 7 San Diego State at 9:10 a.m. and No. 3 UCLA at 2:45 p.m.
