Instant Analysis: IU 1, Creighton 0

HOOVER, Ala.–Femi Hollinger-Janzen came in for junior midfielder Jacob Bushue in the 17th minute, and 10 minutes later gave Indiana a 1-0 lead for the third time in four NCAA Tournament games. Two saves by senior goalkeeper Luis Soffner — including a sparkling fingertip save diving to his left — in the final three minutes sent the Hoosiers on to their first national championship game since 2004.

It was over when: Sophomore forward Eriq Zavaleta drew a foul in the Hoosiers’ attacking third five yards from the touch line with 10 seconds remaining. IU had no need to restart.

Game ball goes to: Hollinger-Janzen. The true freshman scored his second postseason goal in the 27th minute to give IU a lead they didn’t surrender. He could have had his third as the first half drew to a close, but that’s for another post. Meanwhile, the Hoosiers “upset” the No. 12 seed Blue Jays.

Stat of the game: 56. As in seconds. IU has found itself trailing in NCAA Tournament play for 56 seconds against Notre Dame in the Sweet 16.

Stat of the game II: 13. IU snapped the Jays’ 13-game unbeaten streak.

Stat of the game III: 2. This is the Hoosiers’ second straight 1-0 victory.

Turning point: Soffner’s second save of the half, in the 90th minute, erased the Jays’ remaining hopes to equalize.

Unsung hero: Sophomore defender Patrick Doody, for the second consecutive game, made the pass into the box that led to the goal. Though he was not credited with the assist either time, his ball led to the game-winning goal.
