Junior outside hitter Jordan Haverly of the IU volleyball team has been named an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection.

Haverly led the Hoosiers in total kills, points, service aces and ranked second on the team in digs.

She missed last season when she tore her ACL, MCL, LCL, and suffered meniscus tears in a spring game before the 2011 season.

This year the junior played in 119 of the 121 sets IU played.

“I’m very proud of Jordan’s accomplishments this year,” IU Coach Sherry Dunbar said. “It was great to have her back on the court after being out a year with injury.”

After her sophomore season where IU went to the sweet sixteen for the first time in school history, Haverly was also named as an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection.

In one of the nation’s premiere volleyball conferences, Haverly excelled and was in the top ten for several significant statistical categories.

She was tied for fifth with a 4.08 kills per set average, sixth in the conference averaging 0.35 aces per set and seventh in the Big Ten with a 4.57 points per set average.

Haverly saved her best for the last portion of the year.

Over the team’s final four matches, Haverly tallied up 62 total kills, good for an average of 4.77 kills per set.

In comparison, senior Ariel Turner of Purdue leads the conference with an average of 4.43 kills per set for the season.

Haverly finished the season with 480 kills, which ranks sixth all time for IU program history for total kills in a season.

So far in her career at IU, she has been named an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection two times in her three years. Dunbar is excited at the prospects of the star’s senior season.

“I think her best season is still to come with a full spring of training ahead of her,” Dunbar said.

Good Job in getting this award and good job to coach Dunbar for setting the bar high for these girls. It’s always good to see a class act coached by a class act in sports that are not as much on the radar screen as some other sports. Again, GREAT JOB TO ALL INVOLVED IN THE VB PROGRAM!!!!!
