Saturday afternoon, IU finished its 2012 football season in a 56-35 loss at Purdue. Though the team ended the season on a three-game losing streak, the Hoosiers finished the year with a 4-8 record, a three-win improvement compared to its 2011 mark of 1-11.

Here are some of the numbers behind the results of IU’s 2012 season:

4: The number of wide receivers who caught more than 40 passes this season. That number is up from zero in 2011.

16: Junior running back Stephen Houston’s touchdown total in 2012. His amount is the fourth most ever by a Hoosier in a single season.

30.8: Average points the Hoosiers scored per game, up from 21.4 in 2011.

91: The amount of tackles by junior safety Greg Heban this season, the most by a Hoosier since Matt Mayberry’s 108 tackles in 2009.

119: IU’s national rank in rush defense. IU allowed 231.3 rushing yards per game this season, good for worst in the Big Ten for the second straight year.

530: The amount of football fields IU’s offense travelled this season. The Hoosiers had a total of 5,304 offensive yards in 2012, nearly 1,000 more than its 2011 total.

2733: The total amount of yards sophomore quarterback Cam Coffman provided in 2012, the seventh-most ever by any IU player in a single season.

5562: Total number of yards the IU defense allowed in 2012. Not only is that 58 yards more than the defense allowed one season ago, it is also the most any Hoosier defense has allowed in over 15 years.
