Halftime: Indiana 21, Purdue 14
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — In the Hoosiers’ final game of the 2012 season, the team has earned a halftime lead against rival Purdue, 21-14.
After three straight games in which IU’s offense has rushed for less than 100 yards, running back Stephen Houston has single-handedly broken the streak. On 17 attempts, the junior has ran for 123 yards and three touchdowns, including a 51-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
Despite struggling early in the first half, the Hoosier defense has also adjusted against the Boilermakers. After allowing 156 first quarter yards, the IU defense let up only 53 second quarter yards to Purdue.
In fact, in the second quarter with the score tied at 14, junior safety Greg Heban intercepted PU quarterback Robert Marve, his first interception since Oct. 13 against Ohio State.
Heban’s return to the Purdue red zone led to a Houston touchdown, and the Hoosiers have not lost the lead since. In addition, IU won the coin toss and chose to defer to the second half, as the team will receive the kickoff to open the third quarter.
