Ferrell named Big Ten Freshman Player of the Week

IU men’s basketball freshman guard Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week after the conference released its list of weekly awards Monday.

The Indianapolis native started Friday in the Hoosiers’ first game of the 2012-13 regular season against Bryant, where Ferrell helped the Hoosiers cruise to a 97-54 victory over the Bulldogs at Assembly Hall.

Ferrell notched seven assists, a game-high, to go along with 10 points, five rebounds, one block and one steal in 24 minutes of action. With his start, the Hoosiers have now started a freshman in the team’s last six season openers.

Ferrell and his teammates continue their non-conference schedule tonight as they take on North Dakota State in the first game of the Progressive Legends Classic at Assembly Hall at 7 p.m.
