Glass won’t discuss Lynch’s future

By Justin Albers | IDS football columnist

I talked with IU Athletics Director Fred Glass today and asked him if he is standing firm on his decision to let football coach Bill Lynch fulfill his contract — which has one more year remaining — or if he is having second thoughts.

His answer wasn’t incredibly revealing.

“We’ve got three games here and I’m focused on supporting the team and coaching staff to do everything that we can to win each one of those games. That’s what my focus is. That’s what I’m doing when I’m in the weight room with the guys, when I’m talking to Bill, or when I’m down on the practice field. I’m focused on these three games.”

What Glass didn’t say was that Lynch will, without a doubt, be the Hoosiers’ coach next season. Maybe I’m reading too far into this, but I think it is somewhat telling that he didn’t have a response like that, as he has previously.

I still feel if the Hoosiers look bad in the final three games and lose all of them, Glass will make a change. If IU wins at least one and looks somewhat respectable, Lynch will be the man again next August.

Let’s face it, Fred Glass has to do something after this season. For recruiting purposes, you can’t have a lame-duck coach – kids want to know who they’ll play for, and will a coach hustle after kids he won’t be coaching? After these “three games” there has to be some decision: fire lynch, or give him an extension. I don’t see any other reasonable options. I know what I’m hoping for…

spring style with monster hats

I collect these. Inclusions in this list are welcome. Also, observe that in some cases I’m not sure the foundation of a particular expression. For those who have knowledge or theories of origin for anything below, I’d like to listen to of your stuff. I hope you enjoy these.

Talking Through Your Hat

To speak nonsense or to lie. c1885. an interview on the planet entitled “How About White Shirts”, a reporter asked a brand new York streetcar conductor what he considered efforts to get the conductors to put on white shirts similar to their counterparts in Chicago. “Dey’re talkin’ tru deir hats” he was quoted as replying.]

Eating Your Hat

There isn’t any such thing as a sure thing, but that’s where this expression comes from. Should you tell someone you’ll eat your hat when they make a move, make sure you aren’t wearing your very best hat-just just in case. expression goes back a minimum of to the reign of Charles II of The uk and had something to do with the amorous proclivities of ‘ol Charlie. Apparently they named a goat after him that had his same passion for life including, within the goat’s case, eating hats.]

Old Hat

Old, dull stuff; from fashion. appears to range from fact that hat fashions are never stand still. The fact of the matter is the fact that hat fashions had not been changing extremely fast at all before the turn from the 1800s. The expression therefore is likely about A century old.]

Mad As A Hatter

Totally demented, crazy. did, indeed, go mad. They inhaled fumes in the mercury which was area of the procedure for making felt hats. Not recognizing the violent twitching and derangement as the signs of a brain disorder, people made fun of affected hat-makers, often treating them as drunkards. Within the U.S., the condition was known as the “Danbury shakes.” (Danbury, Connecticut, would be a hat-making center.) Mercury is not utilized in the felting process: hat-making — and hat-makers — are safe.]

Hat In Hand

An exhibition of humility. For example, “I come hat in hand” means that I are available in deference or perhaps in weakness. assume that the origins come from feudal instances when serfs or any lower people in feudal society was required to remove their hats in the presence from the lord or monarch (remember the Dr. Seuss book “The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins”?). A hat is the most prideful adornment.]

Pass The Hat

Literally to pass through your hat among people in a crowd or group as a means for collecting money. And to beg or ask for charity. origin is self-evident as a man’s hat turned inverted makes a fine container.]
